Where to Get Thanksgiving Pie in Vista and San Marcos (No Baking Required)
A pie shop in a bigger new home, made-to-order cheesecake, Aussie meat pies and a pecan pie croissant from four independent local kitchens

Thanksgiving is a little over two weeks away, which means somebody in your family is about to say the words, “I’ll handle dessert.”

Here’s the good news: handling dessert doesn’t have to mean baking it. Several independently owned kitchens in Vista and San Marcos turn out pies, plus a few pie-adjacent surprises, that can take that job off your list. The catch? The closer we get to the big day, the faster the good stuff disappears.

The San Marcos Pie Shop With a Brand-New Home

Mama Kat’s Restaurant & Pie Shop is heading into its first Thanksgiving season in its much bigger home at 288 Rancheros Drive, the former My Yard Live building.

The pie case is still the star. The current menu lists Harvest Pumpkin at $24.95, Maple Pecan at $28.95 and classic Apple at $29.95, along with Dutch apple, cherry and berry pies, a long lineup of cream pies, and plant-based, dairy-free options.

Holiday ordering details for 2026 weren’t posted online in early November, so call 760-591-4558 before you count on a specific flavor. The restaurant is open daily from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A Made-to-Order Pick for the Cheesecake Crowd

Not every family is a pumpkin pie family. If yours leans creamy, Zen-sational Cheesecake in San Marcos is worth a call.

Owner Marylou Flanders has been baking made-to-order cheesecakes since 2011, and they’re never frozen. There’s no storefront. Orders are picked up curbside, usually within 24 to 48 hours. Full-size cheesecakes are 9 inches and serve 8 to 16, and gluten-free and keto versions are available.

Seasonal flavors change, so call (619) 972-2331 to ask what’s on the holiday list.

Savory Pies for the Long Weekend

Thanksgiving is one meal. The houseguests, however, often stay four days.

That’s where Oscar’s Meat Pies in Vista earns a spot on your list. Founder Oscar Dike started baking for Southern California’s rugby community, which missed the meat pies of Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the British Isles. Today the shop at 1011 S. Santa Fe Ave. makes hand-pressed savory pies, sausage rolls and Cornish pasties.

Order them hot by calling 760-509-1720 (allow about 30 minutes), or grab them frozen to stash for the days when nobody wants another turkey sandwich. Take-out hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

A Pecan Pie You Can Eat for Breakfast

Glutenus Maximus Bakehouse in Vista doesn’t sell traditional whole pies, but it does make a Pecan Pie Croissant with bourbon whipped cream that feels tailor-made for the season.

Owner Hunter Barrera’s bakehouse sits at 3265 Business Park Drive and is open daily from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Go early; pastries sell through.
