From Ciao’s marketplace to Nucci’s family meals and Mama ’n Papa’s pasta combinations, match dinner to the people at your table

Dinner gets surprisingly complicated once everybody agrees on Italian. One person means pizza, another wants pasta, and someone was mostly thinking about the garlic bread. That last person may have the clearest plan.

Three Italian restaurants in Vista offer different ways to resolve the discussion: a restaurant with a marketplace next door, a Melrose Drive cafe with take-home family meals, and a Civic Center Drive kitchen where pizza shares billing with plenty of pasta.

Ciao: Dinner Can Turn Into a Shopping Trip

Ciao Ristorante Italiano, at 2015 E. Vista Way, gives you a reason to leave room beyond the main course. Alongside the restaurant, its marketplace includes a delicatessen, pastries, gelato and wine. A simple dinner plan could acquire a few extras on the way out.

The restaurant menu ranges from rigatoni Bolognese and lobster ravioli to chicken piccata and wood-fired pizzas. There’s also a weekday lunch menu, served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., excluding holidays. For a smaller outing, the outdoor cafe offers coffee, focaccia and panini.

Choose the part of Ciao that fits the occasion rather than assuming every counter follows the restaurant’s schedule. Check the menus and hours, or call 760-630-7333.

Nucci’s: Remember the Garlic Knots

At Nucci’s Italian Cafe, 1580 S. Melrose Drive, Suite 108, pasta comes with soup or salad and garlic knots. That’s useful information before you enthusiastically order three appetizers.

The menu moves from spaghetti marinara and linguini with clams to penne with vodka sauce, ravioli and chicken dishes. Pizza, calzones and stromboli give a mixed table other directions to go.

For dinner at home, its takeout-only Family Feasts include an entree for four, a large garden salad and garlic knots for four. Spaghetti marinara, lasagna and chicken Parmigiana are among the listed choices. Check current pricing and availability through Nucci’s menu or 760-598-1005; feeding four shouldn’t require four separate negotiations.

Mama ’n Papa’s: Let the Pasta People Stay

Mama ’n Papa’s Pizza Grotto, 988 Civic Center Drive, has an answer for the table that can’t choose: a combination of spaghetti, lasagna and ravioli. Sometimes compromise arrives with sauce.

Beyond pizza, the menu includes baked ziti, manicotti, chicken Parmigiana, sandwiches and a children’s section. It’s a practical place to consider when the pizza vote isn’t unanimous. You can occassionally let the person who wanted pasta win.

The restaurant offers pickup and delivery and lists Tuesday as its closed day. Check the current menu or call 760-941-3900 before planning that midweek visit.
