Vista Sports Roundup: Two Volleyball Sweeps and Mt. SAC Standouts
Mission Vista and Tri-City Christian advance in CIF volleyball as Vista runners grab second-place finishes and field hockey teams weather a mixed week.

Tuesday delivered the kind of volleyball scoreboard Vista fans could get used to: two local teams, two CIF playoff wins, and not a fourth set in sight.

Mission Vista swept Pacific Ridge 3–0 in Division I on October 27. Tri-City Christian did the same to Southwest EC in Division IV. The postseason doesn't promise anyone a second night, but these teams earned one.

The Volleyball Brackets Have Company

Mission Vista arrived with momentum. On October 22, the Timberwolves defeated Carlsbad 3–1, then carried that energy into their straight-set playoff opener. The Timberwolves kept rolling on October 29, sweeping Classical Academy 3–0 to advance to the CIF Division I semifinals on November 4.

Tri-City Christian's path wasn't quite so tidy. The Eagles lost to Maranatha Christian in five sets on October 23 before finding a clean 3–0 result against Southwest EC four days later. A tricky Friday didn't get the last word.

Vista High fell 3–0 to Escondido on October 23.

Two Second-Place Finishes for Vista High

At the October 23 Mt. SAC invitational, Vista High's Elena Sanchez ran 19:16.50 to place second in the Division 3 Varsity Green B girls' three-mile race. Carlos Sanchez was second in the boys' Division 3 Varsity Blue B race in 15:54.50. Same school, same place, different races.

RBV's Izabella Livingston finished 16th (21:10.20) and Isaac Arias 15th (17:04.20) in their respective Division 3 races.

At Saturday's rain-course meet, Mission Vista's Cade Willhoit placed 11th in Varsity Blue B in 15:37.40.

A Field Hockey Week That Kept Turning

RBV field hockey beat Helix 2–1 on October 26, then fell 7–0 to San Dieguito Academy a day later.

Mission Vista field hockey lost 3–1 to San Dieguito Academy on October 22, beat Fallbrook 1–0 the next day, then lost 1–0 to Poway on October 27.

Vista High field hockey fell 7–0 to Mission Hills on October 28.

Longhorns Make Waves, Then Look Ahead

RBV boys water polo beat Mira Mesa 14–9 on October 22, then lost 11–6 to El Capitan later in the week.

RBV girls flag football hosts Santana in a scheduled CIF Division IV playoff game on October 29. A fresh bracket offers a fresh start.

Between advancing volleyball teams, fast runners and field hockey swings, Vista's fall sports gave fans alot to digest this week—and new matchups to watch next.
