Vista Sports Roundup: Panthers Splash Into CIF Quarterfinals |
Vista High water polo celebrates a playoff victory as Tri-City Christian and Mission Vista make their own postseason moves. |
Vista High’s boys water polo team is moving on — and the Panthers have a 10–7 CIF Division I playoff victory to celebrate.
The Panthers earned a place in Saturday’s quarterfinals, adding another bright spot to a busy postseason for Vista-area schools. Tri-City Christian reached a volleyball championship match, Mission Vista advanced in volleyball and posted a field hockey shutout, and other local teams battled through the final days of October.
Panthers Power Into the Quarterfinals
There’s nothing quite like a playoff win to give a team momentum. Vista High boys water polo came away with a 10–7 victory in the CIF Division I playoffs, earning a spot in Saturday’s quarterfinal round.
The Panthers’ own aquatics program shared the result and celebrated the team’s advancement. A three-goal margin was enough to keep Vista’s postseason going — and give Panthers supporters another game to look forward to.
Eagles Earn a Championship Opportunity
The celebration isn’t limited to the pool. On the volleyball court, Tri-City Christian put together two straight-set playoff victories to reach the Division IV championship match.
The Eagles swept High Tech Chula Vista 3–0 on October 30, then beat Mountain Empire by the same score in Tuesday’s semifinal.
Against Mountain Empire, Tri-City Christian won 25–8, 25–15 and 25–17. Sarah Carroll delivered 16 kills, Serina Arreola contributed 28 assists, and Ava Gonzalez and Aubrey Long added four aces apiece.
Those victories set up a championship matchup with Ramona on Thursday, November 5, at 7:30 p.m. It’s an impressive run for the Eagles, who have made every playoff set count.
Mission Vista Keeps the Volleyball Momentum Going
Tri-City Christian wasn’t the only local volleyball team making a postseason statement. Mission Vista swept Classical Academy 3–0 in its Division I quarterfinal on October 29.
The Timberwolves won 25–23, 25–22 and 25–10. Two close opening sets gave way to a decisive third, sending Mission Vista into a November 4 semifinal against Santa Fe Christian.
Mission Vista also held the No. 8 spot in the San Diego Section volleyball rankings released November 5, another mark of a strong postseason showing.
Timberwolves Deliver on the Field Hockey Turf
Mission Vista found another reason to celebrate away from the volleyball court. Its field hockey team shut out Fallbrook 5–0 on October 29.
That same day brought tougher results elsewhere: Rancho Buena Vista lost 6–0 to Poway, and Vista High fell 8–0 to Westview. The week’s field hockey results showed how different one afternoon can look across neighboring programs.
From the Panthers’ playoff win in the pool to the Eagles’ championship berth and the Timberwolves’ victories, Vista-area athletes gave their communities plenty to celebrate this week.
