San Marcos Sports Roundup: Field Hockey Streaks and Playoff Momentum
Mission Hills finishes league play unbeaten as San Marcos High adds another shutout and both programs eye postseason play.

San Marcos-area field hockey teams are giving their fans plenty to celebrate as postseason play takes center stage.

Mission Hills closed its league schedule on a winning streak, while San Marcos High picked up another shutout and headed toward the Division I playoffs as the bracket’s No. 2 seed. The action continued on the volleyball court, with boys water polo postseason play next on the calendar.

Grizzlies Finish Strong on the Turf

Mission Hills field hockey has built an impressive season: a 17–5 overall record, an unbeaten league campaign and ten straight league victories to finish the regular-season schedule.

The Grizzlies kept that momentum rolling with a 7–0 win over Vista on October 28, then traveled to San Pasqual and came away with a 1–0 victory on October 30. One was a commanding offensive performance; the other showed the value of keeping a clean sheet in a close game.

With the postseason ahead, Mission Hills has given its supporters plenty of reasons to follow the next chapter.

Knights Add a Shutout of Their Own

Across town, San Marcos High defeated Mt. Carmel 2–0 on October 29, keeping the Sundevils off the scoreboard.

That win came as the Knights prepared for the CIF Division I field hockey playoffs, where the bracket places San Marcos at No. 2. The quarterfinal matchup pairs the Knights with Mission Bay, the No. 7 seed.

Two San Marcos-area programs, multiple shutouts and a postseason worth watching. That's a strong finish to the field hockey regular season.

Volleyball: A Season Worth Recognizing

The Knights' girls volleyball season also deserves recognition. San Marcos entered its October 29 Open Division playoff match against Coronado with a strong body of work and battled through two especially close sets.

Coronado won 3–0, but the opening sets ended 25–23 and 25–22 before a 25–18 third set. San Marcos stood at 24–12 after the match — a season with plenty more to remember than its final score.

Grizzlies Look Ahead in Water Polo

Next up in the pool: Mission Hills boys water polo is scheduled to meet Otay Ranch in the CIF Division III playoffs on Friday, November 6, at 6:30 p.m.

Between field hockey's shutouts, volleyball's postseason competition and water polo's next challenge, San Marcos athletes are giving the community plenty to cheer for as November begins.
