Finding something local shouldn’t mean bouncing between Google, Facebook groups, Instagram accounts and half a dozen websites hoping the information you finally find is still current.

We think there should be an easier way.

So we’ve been building one.

If you’ve noticed a few new things appearing around North Valley Flare lately, now you know why.

Our new Directory, Events and Hot Spots tools are live in beta, giving you three simple ways to find more of what’s happening around North County.

And the best part? You don’t need to learn a bunch of new names to use them.

Just decide what you’re looking for and go.

Looking for a Local Business? Start With the Directory.

Need a plumber? Looking for somewhere new to eat? Trying to find a pet groomer, hairstylist, shop, wellness business or local professional?

Head to the Directory.

Thousands of North County businesses are already included, giving you a simple place to search locally when you need something.

Business owners can also claim their listings, make sure their information is accurate and give potential customers a better picture of what they offer.

Basic listings are free because we want the Directory to be genuinely useful to the community — and that means including the local businesses people are actually searching for.

Looking for Something to Do? Check Events.

This is a problem we run into constantly at North Valley Flare.

There are a lot of great things happening around North County, but finding them isn’t always easy.

Some events appear on city calendars. Others are announced on Instagram or Facebook. Some are buried on individual websites, and plenty still spread mostly through word of mouth.

Our Events section gives all of that local activity a dedicated place to be discovered.

Businesses, organizations and community groups can submit their events, too, helping more people discover what they have coming up.

Whether you’re planning the weekend or simply wondering what’s happening nearby, Events is designed to make the search a whole lot easier.

Want to Know What’s Happening Right Now? Try Hot Spots.

This might be the part we’re most excited about.

Not everything local sits still.

Food trucks move. Pop-ups appear for a few hours. Open houses come and go. Vendors change locations. Classes, specials and other activities happen at particular places and times.

That’s what Hot Spots is designed for.

Instead of simply telling you that something exists, Hot Spots helps you discover what’s happening, where it’s happening and when you can catch it.

A food truck might be at a Vista brewery tonight and somewhere in San Marcos tomorrow.

A local business might have something special happening for only a few hours.

A pop-up might appear this weekend and disappear again by Monday.

Hot Spots gives those timely local happenings a place to be found.

Three Simple Choices — And They’re Connected

Directory. Events. Hot Spots.

You can use whichever one you need and leave it at that.

But behind the scenes, we’ve designed them to work together.

Maybe you discover something happening through Events, search the Directory for somewhere nearby to grab dinner and then check Hot Spots to see if a food truck or pop-up is happening while you’re out.

You can start anywhere and move between them as you explore.

That’s the idea: make finding local easier without making you figure out how everything works first.

There Are Names Behind the Tools

You may occasionally see the names OurLocalScout, LocalGoodTimes and RoveLocal as you explore.

Those are the individual platforms powering different parts of what we’re building.

OurLocalScout powers our local business discovery.

LocalGoodTimes is built around local events.

RoveLocal is the home of Hot Spots.

Each can have its own identity and grow on its own, but here at North Valley Flare, we’re keeping things simple.

Built for the Way North County Actually Works

North Valley Flare’s editorial coverage remains focused on Vista and San Marcos.

But local life doesn’t stop at a city-limit sign.

You might live in Vista, work in Carlsbad, meet friends in San Marcos, hire someone from Oceanside and follow your favorite food truck wherever it happens to park that evening.

That’s why these tools reach more broadly across North County San Diego.

They’re being built around the way people actually live, eat, shop, explore and do business here.

Live Now — But Still in Beta

The tools are live and ready to explore, but we’re calling them beta for a reason.

We’re still building.

You’ll see more businesses added. More events. More Hot Spots. Information will be updated, features will improve and everything will become more connected as we go.

You may even find something we need to fix.

If you do, tell us.

If something is missing or you have an idea that would make these tools more useful, we want to hear that too.

That’s part of letting our community start using them while we continue making them better.
