A rabid bat discovered in Vista has prompted a public health warning and serves as an important reminder for residents throughout North County about the risks associated with handling bats and other wild animals.
The incident occurred on Sunday, July 19, at approximately 1 p.m., when a bat unexpectedly landed on a table where a family was eating at the Yellow Deli in Vista. Another diner eventually collected the animal and brought it to the San Diego Humane Society. The bat was subsequently tested for rabies, and the results came back positive.
