Here is the thing about first responders.
Most of us only think about them when the sirens are already moving.

Then we expect the truck to start, the radio to work, the deputy to arrive, the crew to know exactly what to do and everyone involved to stay calm while the rest of us are anything but.

Friday night gave Vista football a little bit of everything.
Rancho Buena Vista put together its most convincing varsity win of the young season, Tri-City Christian survived a one-point thriller, and Vista High continued working through a difficult opening stretch on the road at Army-Navy Academy.

For a few seconds Friday night, Mission Hills looked like it might pull off a remarkable finish.
The Grizzlies entered their road game against Granite Hills undefeated, carrying a 3-0 record and the No. 1 spot in the San Diego Union-Tribune media poll. They left with their first loss — but not before taking the game all the way down to the final seconds. A school record fell on the cross-country course, an RBV flag football quarterback earned countywide recognition, and Longhorns water polo turned an 0–3 start into a three-game winning streak.
