A free movie should be simple.

Show up.

Find a patch of grass.

Eat snacks while cartoon animals solve crimes.

Vista has added a subplot.

Its final Movies in the Park screening of 2026 is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Brengle Terrace Park softball fields, 1200 Vale Terrace Drive.

The feature is Disney’s Zootopia 2.

Admission is free.

No ticket is required.

Vista will provide the park, screen, movie and one mysterious snake.

You need to bring nearly everything else.

First, however, you need to decide when to arrive.

Eight O’Clock—With an Asterisk

Vista’s official event calendar lists an 8 p.m. showtime.

So does the City’s current social-media announcement.

That makes 8 p.m. the best-supported local time.

But Vista’s general Movies in the Park page says screenings begin at dusk. The countywide Summer Movies in the Park calendar lists a 5:30 p.m. start.

The county listing advertises no pre-movie activities, so it does not explain what begins at 5:30.

Same movie.

Same softball field.

Three timing descriptions.

Families arranging dinner, rides or small children with firm opinions about bedtime may want to confirm the schedule with Vista Recreation and Community Services at 760-639-6151.

Arriving early is sensible.

Arriving before the plot exists is something else.

Bring Your Own Theater

The county’s event page contains several practical details missing from Vista’s invitation.

Concessions will not be available.

Attendees may bring a picnic and movie snacks. Chairs and blankets are encouraged, but chairs are not supplied.

Vista has the giant screen handled.

The popcorn is your department.

Alcohol is prohibited, and dogs are not allowed at this screening. The listing directs visitors to the park parking lot but does not say whether parking is free or identify an overflow option.

The program recommends bringing a sweater or light jacket for the cooler evening hours.

Rain or high winds may cancel the movie. Its official FAQ advises contacting the local recreation office for current information if bad weather develops.

The Movie Is New. The Mission Is Not.

Disney released Zootopia 2 on Nov. 26, 2025.

The PG-rated animated adventure runs one hour and 48 minutes. Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman return as Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde. Ke Huy Quan voices newcomer Gary De’Snake.

The outdoor program has a considerably longer résumé.

Summer Movies in the Park says it began in 2007 as a “take back our parks” initiative. The program was created to bring residents into public parks after dark, discourage inappropriate park activity and give families opportunities to connect.

Vista presents its screenings in conjunction with the County of San Diego.

The city’s published 2026 lineup contained four scheduled movies across three Vista parks: Encanto, GOAT, Superman and Zootopia 2.

Sept. 12 is the final chapter of Vista’s park-movie season.

Bring the chair.

Pack the snacks.

Leave the dog at home.
