Four hours.
No snack negotiations.
No arguments about whose turn it is.
No mysterious crash followed by the deeply reassuring words, “Everything’s fine!”
Vista Recreation cannot guarantee what parents will do with the break.
It can put one on the calendar.
The City of Vista’s next Parents Night Out is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Jim Porter Recreation Center.
The drop-off recreation program is open to children ages 5–12. Vista lists the cost as $15 per child.
That is the real local headline.
Not merely games.
Not merely crafts.
Four hours of organized activity at a city recreation center for fifteen bucks.
The Kids Get the Gym
The city’s Sept. 19 announcement advertises Capture the Flag, Car Lot, arts and crafts, and board games.
Translation: running, creating and competing—followed, parents may reasonably hope, by a little less resistance at bedtime.
Jim Porter Recreation Center is inside Brengle Terrace Park at 1200 Vale Terrace Drive in Vista.
City recreation records show that the facility includes a gymnasium, auditorium, dance room and multipurpose spaces. The announcement refers to gym games but does not identify which other rooms will be used.
One detail deserves a prominent place on the family checklist:
Feed the children first.
Dinner is not advertised as part of the program. Parents are instructed to give children dinner before drop-off, and the city says participants may bring a snack and water.
Pack accordingly.
Nobody wants Capture the Flag interrupted by a granola-bar emergency.
Fifteen Dollars Comes With Fine Print
Registration is handled through Vista’s online recreation system.
A current listing for the Sept. 19 session shows a “Register Now” option and a starting price of $15. Availability can change, so families should check the live registration page before assuming space remains.
The city’s public pages do not identify the maximum enrollment, staff-to-child ratio or detailed pickup procedure.

Because four hours away sounds considerably less relaxing if pickup becomes a paperwork scavenger hunt.
Vista Put This Idea on Repeat
Parents Night Out is not a one-Saturday experiment.
The city advertised six sessions during the second half of 2026: July 18, Aug. 15, Sept. 19, Oct. 17, Nov. 14 and Dec. 19.
That recurring schedule turns a cute recreation post into something more useful.
Vista is offering families a predictable four-hour Saturday-night program through summer, fall and winter.
The children get games, crafts and time away from their normal routine.
The adults get time to eat dinner, run errands, watch a movie—or sit quietly and remember what finishing a sentence feels like.
Everybody chooses an adventure.

Would like to know how many staff they have for this. Sounds fun but I always wonder about supervision with these drop offs.
Hope they keep offering these! My kids always come home tired and happy. Worth it just for that.
