Four games.

Four wins.

And apparently the San Marcos girls flag football team hasn't developed much interest in letting the other team score.

The Knights headline this week's San Marcos Sports Roundup, but they're hardly alone. Mission Hills flag football is unbeaten, both schools have volleyball action underway, and field hockey has joined the fall scoreboard.

Here's what caught our eye.

San Marcos Flag Football Moves to 4–0

San Marcos High girls flag football added another big win Monday, defeating Rancho Bernardo 48–0.

That moves the Knights to 4–0, with three consecutive shutouts.

Through those four games, San Marcos has scored 183 points while allowing just six.

Yes, you read that correctly.

Six.

The Knights opened with a 48–6 win over Clairemont, followed it with shutouts of Imperial 43–0 and Dana Hills 44–0, then added Monday's 48–0 win over Rancho Bernardo.

And we've got some local names to go with that start.

Junior Miyah Holmes is averaging 115.7 receiving yards per game and has seven touchdowns. Junior Finlee Hovis is averaging 45.7 rushing yards per game, while senior Sam Shelton is averaging four flag pulls per game.

Freshman Stella Reynolds has recorded two sacks, while junior Danielle Ekereke has three flag pulls for loss.

That's a whole lot of Knights showing up on the stat sheet.

Mission Hills Has a Perfect Start of Its Own

Across town, Mission Hills girls flag football hasn't lost either.

The Grizzlies opened their season with a 47–0 shutout of Rancho Bernardo before following it with a 13–6 victory over Steele Canyon.

That puts Mission Hills at 2–0, with the Grizzlies outscoring their first two opponents 60–6.

There were some individual defensive performances worth recognizing in that Rancho Bernardo victory, too.

Scarlett Jacobs intercepted two passes. Kenley Imoto returned an interception for a touchdown, while Maegan Budge also recorded an interception. Tatem Tinoisamoa added a sack.

Add San Marcos and Mission Hills together and the city's two girls flag football programs opened a combined 6–0.

Girls flag football has officially gotten our attention.

San Marcos Volleyball Packs Plenty Into Its Opening Stretch

The Knights have been busy inside the gym, too.

San Marcos swept Otay Ranch 3–0 on Aug. 19, then picked up tournament victories over Patrick Henry, Rancho Buena Vista, Temecula Valley and La Costa Canyon.

Mission Vista finally stopped the run on Aug. 22, edging San Marcos 2–1 at the San Diego Varsity Classic.

Still, that's a busy—and successful—opening stretch for the Knights.

Mission Hills Volleyball Has a Name Worth Watching

Mission Hills opened its girls volleyball season with victories over Maranatha Christian and Rancho Buena Vista before Mission Vista handed the Grizzlies their first loss, 3–1 on Aug. 20.

One Mission Hills player put together a particularly noticeable statistical performance in that match.

Dakota Aballi recorded 14 assists and six aces.

That's exactly the kind of individual performance we're hoping to uncover more often as these weekly roundups grow.

A final score tells us who won.

Knowing which local kids made things happen tells a much better story.

Field Hockey Joins the Fall Action

Mission Hills has also put an early local field hockey win on the board, defeating Mission Vista 2–1 on Aug. 19.

San Marcos High's field hockey season is underway as well, with the Knights already appearing in games against Canyon Hills and Rancho Buena Vista.

We haven't found final scores from those San Marcos games that we're comfortable publishing yet, so we'll keep watching rather than filling in the blanks.

More Fall Sports Are Coming

We're also tracking cross country, girls golf, girls tennis and boys water polo at San Marcos High and Mission Hills.

As those schedules develop, we're particularly interested in individual accomplishments.

A runner finishing near the front of a big invitational. A golfer posting a career round. A tennis player pulling off an upset. A water polo player having a monster game.

Those are the performances that can easily disappear into a scoreboard somewhere.

We'd rather put a name to them.
