Located at 222 E. Broadway in downtown Vista, the boutique sells designer fabrics, quilt kits, patterns, notions and handmade products.

Those are the things customers can carry home.

The more interesting part may be what stays inside the shop: instruction, creative company and a place to work beside people who understand why a bobbin can ruin an otherwise respectable morning.

Amazon can ship the yardage.

It cannot help thread the machine.

On Vista’s Business Rolls Since 2024

The City of Vista’s active business-license database lists the shop under the name Mosaique, with a start date in the city of Aug. 1, 2024.

Its license is listed as active through June 30, 2027.

That confirms Mosaique has been on Vista’s business rolls for just over two years. It does not independently confirm the exact date the East Broadway storefront first opened to shoppers.

The shop’s website identifies Moneca Shelhoup as the author of articles about fabrics, sewing and creative projects.

Mosaique describes its fabric collection as vibrant, contemporary and eclectic. Traditional quilting has not been shown the door, but it is not allowed to monopolize the cutting table.

The Fabric Is Only the Beginning

Mosaique advertises rotating classes in sewing, quilting and crafting.

Its listed subjects include beginning sewing, beginning quilting, embroidery, paper crafting, fabric collage and handmade décor. These are advertised areas of instruction; the website does not show that every subject currently has a scheduled class.

Customers seeking individual help can request one-on-one beginning sewing or quilting instruction for $25 per hour. The shop says these sessions can be personalized for different skill levels and projects.

There is one stitch of fine print: submitting a preferred date does not reserve an appointment. Mosaique must confirm the request first.

Arriving unexpectedly with a sewing machine and a bag of tangled thread is therefore not the official registration process.

Wednesday Comes With a Seat at the Table

Mosaique also advertises a weekly Sit & Stitch gathering every Wednesday at 10 a.m.

Participants can bring a personal sewing project and work alongside fellow crafters and a host. The posted price is $10 per person.

That gathering provides the strongest local thread in this story.

Fabric can be purchased almost anywhere. A standing invitation to sit down, work on a project and exchange ideas with other Vista-area makers is considerably harder to place in an online cart.
