Prohibition Brewing Company opened with a remarkable commitment to one number.

It even stayed open until 11 p.m. that first day.
Nearly 15 years later, Prohibition is preparing to call it a round.
The family-owned brewery announced Sept. 1 that it had decided to sell. It also promised blowout sales on its remaining kegs and cans while warning that staffing and operating hours would be limited.

Customers planning one last visit should call first.
A locked door is a lousy place to raise a farewell glass.
The Property Got a Three-Month Head Start
Customers received the news in September.
The real-estate market received it in June.
The combined property at 2004–2012 East Vista Way was listed June 4 with a $2.75 million asking price.
Commercial marketing material describes three buildings that together support a restaurant, taproom and brewing facility. The listing also says an equipment list is available upon request, but it does not identify what equipment comes with the asking price.
Then comes the part that matters beyond the final pint.
The property is advertised for another owner-operator—or for repositioning and possible redevelopment.
Somebody could continue operating a restaurant and brewery there. Somebody could give the property an entirely different purpose.
No buyer or replacement project has been publicly announced.
North Vista is not merely losing a brewery.
It is waiting to discover what happens to a property built around food, beer, music and neighborhood gatherings.
Two Years Ago, Prohibition Was Improving
Here is the wrinkle.
Prohibition was making substantial upgrades in 2024.
The brewery resurfaced and refurnished its patio, enclosed its band area and reorganized portions of the kitchen. Brewing improvements included larger fermenters, increased cooling capacity and enhanced fermentation monitoring.
At the time, General Manager Kyle Adams said the work was intended to meet customer demand and improve efficiency.
The brewery was producing approximately 1,000 barrels annually.
Two years later, the East Vista Way property is for sale.
The owners have not publicly explained what changed.
A Vista Family Built It
Ron and Kathy Adams founded Prohibition after Ron began brewing small batches as a hobby around 2007.
The family converted the former D’elegantes Night Club and Restaurant into a brewery during Vista’s early craft-beer expansion. Their son Kyle, a Vista High School graduate, later became general manager.
Unlike many Vista breweries concentrated around industrial areas near SR-78, Prohibition operated farther north with a full restaurant, patio, live music and private events.
It sold beer.
But it also built something considerably harder to manufacture:
A neighborhood habit.
Now the kegs and cans are headed for blowout sales, the property is available and one question remains on tap.

Wish they’d be clearer about final days and deals. I tried to stop by last week and it was closed. Guess I’ll call next time, but feels a bit weird not knowing when the last chance will be.

Wow, had no idea they were just renting this whole time. Hope whoever takes over keeps the place friendly and doesn’t turn it into condos or something boring.
Hard to believe they’re closing, I thought those patio upgrades meant they were doing well. This spot always felt different from the other breweries. We’ll miss the live music nights.
