Downtown Vista is usually where we’re talking about weekend events, local businesses and what’s happening around town.
Unfortunately, this is one of those times when the local news takes a more serious turn.
A juvenile has been arrested in connection with an August 15 drive-by shooting at 2N1 Korean BBQ on Vista Village Drive—an incident that sent a bullet through the restaurant’s exterior window and injured a customer inside.
What Happened That Saturday Night
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, deputies from the Vista Patrol Station responded to the 400 block of Vista Village Drive shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 15.
Investigators determined that a round fired from a passing vehicle penetrated an exterior window at 2N1 Korean BBQ, located at 401 Vista Village Drive.
A customer inside was struck. Thankfully, authorities said the person’s injuries were not life-threatening, and the victim was treated at the scene.
Investigators Turned to License Plate Readers
At first, investigators had limited information about the vehicle involved.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, detectives used Vista’s Automated License Plate Reader system to help develop a lead and identify a suspect vehicle.
That lead eventually took investigators outside Vista. Working with the Oceanside Police Department, authorities arrested an Oceanside juvenile on August 18.
The Sheriff’s Office says the juvenile was found in possession of an unserialized firearm at the time of the arrest and was booked into San Diego County Juvenile Hall.
Detectives later located the vehicle believed to have been involved in the shooting on August 21.
The Investigation Is Still Active
The Vista Street Narcotics & Gang Team took over the investigation after authorities determined the incident involved what the Sheriff’s Office described as a “potentially gang-affiliated individual.”
That distinction is important. Authorities have not publicly provided enough information to determine who was targeted or what led to the shooting, so there’s no reason to speculate.
The Sheriff’s Office says investigators are continuing to work with the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office as the case moves forward.
Because the person arrested is a juvenile, authorities have not publicly identified the suspect.
A Serious Incident in the Heart of Vista
This isn’t the kind of story we particularly enjoy covering at North Valley Flare.
But when gunfire enters an occupied local restaurant and someone gets hurt, it becomes important community news.
The encouraging part of an otherwise troubling story is that the victim’s injuries were reported as non-life-threatening and investigators have since made an arrest.

2N1 is always so busy on weekends, can’t believe this happened there. Hope the person who got shot is doing alright.
