San Marcos sports aren't exactly making it easy for us to keep up this week.

Mission Hills girls flag football added another win Wednesday night, athletes from both local flag football programs are showing up among San Diego's statistical leaders, and San Marcos High and Mission Hills are about to settle something on the volleyball court.

Here's what caught our attention.

Mission Hills Gets It Done Against Poway

Mission Hills girls flag football went on the road Wednesday and came home with a 19–13 victory over Poway.

The win moves the Grizzlies to 5–1 on the season and ended Poway's three-game winning streak.

Mission Hills is becoming one of those teams worth checking on every time it takes the field.

And some of the individual numbers explain why.

Grizzlies Are Showing Up on the Leaderboards

Several Mission Hills athletes appeared on San Diego statistical leaderboards shared this week by SD Prep Insider and reposted by the Mission Hills flag football program.

Freshman Denlia Freeman has eight total touchdowns through the team's first five games reflected in those rankings.

Sophomore Catie Kaminski was listed with 419 receiving yards and 45 receptions through five games, an average of 83.8 receiving yards per game.

Quarterback Kensie Del Gatto was also among San Diego's passing leaders, with the leaderboard crediting her with 1,321 passing yards and 15 touchdowns through five games.

That's a lot of production coming from a team that has now won five of its first six.

San Marcos Has a County Leader of Its Own

The Knights aren't exactly sitting this one out.

San Marcos quarterback Finlee Hovis appeared immediately behind Del Gatto among the county passing leaders, with 1,312 passing yards and 21 touchdowns through six games on the Sept. 8 leaderboard.

Hovis has also been getting it done with her legs, leading the Knights in rushing production.

And San Marcos has plenty of other names appearing on the stat sheet.

Junior Miyah Holmes has been one of the Knights' top receiving threats, while junior Danielle Ekereke has been making an impact defensively with flag pulls behind the line of scrimmage and sacks.

The Knights entered this week unbeaten through their first six games and among the San Diego Section's top-ranked teams.

Mission Hills JV Golf Puts a Win on the Board

Flag football wasn't the only Mission Hills team celebrating this week.

The official Mission Hills girls golf account reported that the JV team picked up a win Sept. 8, despite playing through some pretty serious heat.

We haven't found a reliable published opponent, score or individual results, so we're not going to manufacture details that aren't there.

But a win is a win — and the JV girls deserve their mention.

San Marcos and Mission Hills Meet Tonight in Volleyball

And now for a little crosstown business.

San Marcos High hosts Mission Hills tonight at 5:45 p.m. in girls volleyball.

San Marcos enters the matchup after a busy opening stretch that included its trip to the Hawai‘i Island Labor Day Classic.

Mission Hills brings several statistical leaders of its own, including Athena Pula in kills per set, Jaelynn Le in digs per set and freshman Dakota Aballi in serving aces.
