A heat wave has settled over North County, but that has not stopped San Marcos residents from enjoying the city's bakeries and local businesses.
Temperatures in the region have climbed well above seasonal averages, yet storefronts throughout San Marcos remain busy with customers seeking both comfort and community.
Local Businesses Thriving in the HeatABC 10 spoke with Christophe Rull Patisserie, a French bakery on San Marcos Boulevard who has been serving customers for nearly a year. Even on the hottest days, patrons fill the patio and interior, drawn by the bakery's pastries and shaded outdoor seating.
"As you can see, there is nobody inside and everybody enjoys the heat of San Diego, but we have these beautiful awnings that create some sort of shade," said owner Christophe Rull, noting that customers adapt to the weather by choosing shaded spots.
Leaders with the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce encourage residents to take advantage of air conditioning while exploring the city's diverse dining and shopping options.

I like that the city encourages us to visit. I had a great time shopping downtown last night after it cooled off.
Supporting local is cool but so is not melting into my seat. Maybe takeout for now.
The Chamber should organize some sort of cool treat festival for these heatwaves. Ice cream and shade!
