Salsa Night Returns to North City — And Yes, Beginners Are Invited.
North City is turning the street into a dance floor again.
On Friday, August 28, Salsa Night returns to North City in San Marcos, bringing an evening of music, dancing and community right into the middle of the Friday night farmers market.
And before you start rehearsing your “I can't dance” excuse, they've already thought of that.
No partner needed. No experience required.

The evening starts at 6:00 PM with a live dance performance, which gives everyone a chance to see how it's supposed to be done before attempting it themselves.
At 6:15 PM, the guided salsa class begins and runs until 7:15 PM. The class is open to all skill levels, so complete beginners are just as welcome as people who already know their way around a salsa floor.
Then from 7:15 to 8:00 PM, the instruction ends, the DJ takes over and the dance floor opens up.
That's when we'll find out who was really paying attention during the lesson.
Make a Friday Night Out of It
Salsa Night takes place during the San Marcos Farmers Market at North City, so there's plenty to do even before the first dance step.
Organizers are encouraging people to arrive early, grab some food and drinks, browse the market and then stick around for the evening's dancing.
It's a pretty good combination: dinner, farmers market, live entertainment and a salsa lesson without having to bounce around to four different places.
And events like this are part of what makes North City's Friday night market a little different from the traditional shop-for-produce-and-head-home farmers market.
Some weeks, apparently, you leave with tomatoes.
Other weeks, you leave knowing how to salsa.

Wish they did this more often, not just once a year. North City knows how to have a good time.
Honestly the DJ part is so fun, even if you don't join the class. Recommend just hanging out!

How crowded does it get? I'm not big on dancing but want to watch the performance part.
Went last summer and ended up salsa dancing with a stranger! No one cared if you messed up. Super welcoming.
Is there parking close to North City on Fridays though? I remember it being kind of packed.
