The Longhorns are getting a newly renovated stadium — they’ll just have to wait a little longer to use it.

Rancho Buena Vista High School has announced that its improved stadium will not open in time for the beginning of the 2026-27 school year as originally hoped. The school’s new target opening date is September 30, 2026.

The update came directly from new RBV Principal Brianne Froumis in an August 5 message to the Rancho community.

A Big Upgrade Is Underway

Construction on the stadium has been underway since last spring, according to the school.

The project includes replacement of the existing synthetic track and artificial-turf field, giving RBV students updated facilities once the work is finished.

The construction isn't exactly a surprise to Longhorn athletes. RBV's track and field program had already been displaced during its 2026 season while the track and turf replacement was underway.

Now the project is stretching a little further into the new school year than initially anticipated.

RBV had hoped to have the improved facility open in time for the start of school.

That timeline didn't hold.

In her message to families, Froumis said the district and its construction partners continue working on the facility and explained that, as can happen with large-scale construction projects, the opening date needed to be adjusted.

The school's announced date is now September 30.

Froumis acknowledged the disappointment surrounding the delay but emphasized the goal of providing RBV students with high-quality facilities, even if completing them takes additional time.
