Vista Sports Roundup: RBV Volleyball Breaks Through as Local Teams Stack Up Wins

There was plenty to celebrate around Vista sports this week — and this time, volleyball brought some good news with it.

Rancho Buena Vista returned from Escondido with wins at multiple levels, the Longhorns girls tennis team celebrated its first varsity league victory, Tri-City Christian continued an impressive volleyball run, and a Vista High baseball player took an important step toward playing at the next level.

Here's what caught our attention.

RBV Volleyball Gets Back in the Win Column

Rancho Buena Vista varsity volleyball picked up a much-needed road victory Sept. 15, sweeping Escondido 3–0.

The victory snapped a three-match losing streak for the Longhorns and gave RBV something else to celebrate beyond the varsity result.

The RBV volleyball program also reported a 2–0 frosh victory over Escondido.

Maybe that glow practice really did work.

We'll give team bonding at least a little credit.

RBV Girls Tennis Celebrates Its First League Win

Rancho Buena Vista girls tennis had something to celebrate this week, picking up its first varsity league victory of the season with a 10–8 win over San Pasqual.

The close result gave the Longhorns an important early breakthrough as league play gets underway.

Tri-City Christian Volleyball Keeps Rolling

Tri-City Christian girls volleyball has quietly put together an impressive early-season run.

The Eagles are 5–1 and have won five consecutive matches, including straight-set victories over St. Joseph Academy, Vista High and Del Lago Academy.

Even more impressive: Tri-City Christian hasn't dropped a set during that five-match winning streak.

The Eagles head into tournament play this weekend with plenty of momentum.

Brandyn Ketcher Announces College Commitment

The fall sports aren't the only Vista athletes giving us something to talk about.

Vista High baseball announced this week that Class of 2027 catcher Brandyn Ketcher has committed to continue his baseball career at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon.

Ketcher is a catcher for Vista High and competes on the club circuit with Elite National West.

College commitments are a pretty big milestone for any high school athlete, regardless of what season we're currently covering.

Congratulations, Brandyn.

This week's roundup is a good reminder that local sports coverage doesn't have to begin and end with varsity football.
