Friday night brought two very different scenes to Vista-area football.

Rancho Buena Vista put together its biggest offensive night of the season, rolling past Canyon Hills 38–12 with contributions coming from all over the field. At Vista High, Military Appreciation Night gave the evening a meaning beyond the scoreboard, while the Panthers also produced a defensive performance worth recognizing.

Tri-City Christian, meanwhile, had the week off with a scheduled bye before returning to action in October.

RBV Offense Has a Night

This wasn't a one-player show for Rancho Buena Vista.

Quarterback Van Piercy completed 14 of 25 passes for 209 yards and three touchdowns, while also carrying the ball eight times for another 53 yards.

But the Longhorns had plenty of help.

Ean Perfect led the ground production with seven carries for 65 yards and a touchdown, while Drake Durazo added 36 yards on four carries and another score.

Through the air, Piercy found several different weapons.

Isaiah Simmons hauled in five receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown, while Sean Richards finished with four catches for 43 yards and a score. Mason Imoto added two receptions for 26 yards and another touchdown.

That's the kind of offensive balance coaches love to see. Canyon Hills couldn't simply concentrate on one Longhorn and expect the offense to stall. RBV found production through the air, on the ground and from multiple players.

Special teams got involved, too.

Jonathan Cruz connected on a 28-yard field goal, converted all five PATs and recorded two touchbacks.

Put it all together and the Longhorns walked away with a convincing 38–12 victory and some welcome momentum as the calendar turns to October.

After spending much of September on the road, RBV gets another chance to play in front of the home crowd. The Longhorns host Mira Mesa on Friday, October 2, at 7 p.m.

Vista Honors the Military Under the Friday Night Lights

Friday night at Vista High was about more than football.

The Panthers hosted Military Appreciation Night, bringing a patriotic theme to the stadium and recognizing members of the military as the Vista community gathered under the Friday night lights.

On the field, Vista faced a difficult matchup against Valley Center and fell 47–0, but the final score doesn't tell the entire story of the evening.

One of Vista's biggest bright spots came on defense, where Chase Hudson recorded two interceptions.

Two takeaways in one game deserve recognition regardless of the score, and Hudson gave the Panthers exactly the kind of defensive plays they can build around as the season continues.

For Vista, the focus now turns to taking those individual positives and continuing to develop through a challenging schedule. And on Military Appreciation Night, the evening was also a reminder that high school football is about more than wins and losses — it's about the community that gathers around the players every Friday night.

The Panthers remain home next week to face Hilltop on Friday, October 2, at 7 p.m.

Tri-City Christian Gets a Week to Reset

Tri-City Christian had a scheduled bye week, giving the Eagles an extra week to recover and prepare for the next stretch of their season.

The break followed Tri-City Christian's September 18 matchup with Foothills Christian.

The Eagles return to action October 2 against Victory Christian Academy.

October Football Is Here

RBV leaves Friday night with plenty to feel good about: points coming from throughout the lineup, a quarterback distributing the football effectively and an offense showing it can attack in several different ways.

Vista turns the page after an evening that combined football with a meaningful community salute, while Hudson's two-interception performance gives Panther fans a defensive highlight to take into next week.

And after a week away from game action, Tri-City Christian gets back to work Friday.
