One fire truck.
More than 400 Kids’ Meals.
And a Vista parking lot suddenly busier than a kindergarten class after somebody discovers the siren button.
Chick-fil-A Vista Village says it gave away more than 400 Kids’ Meals during its Touch-a-Truck Family Night with Vista firefighters on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
Before that number gets fitted with a helmet and promoted to “official attendance,” one distinction matters:
It is the restaurant’s reported meal count.
It does not necessarily mean 400 children—or 400 families—attended.
Still, that is a sizable stack of chicken.
Dinner Came With a Fire Engine
The restaurant advertised the event as an opportunity for children younger than 12 to receive a complimentary Kids’ Meal, meet local firefighters and see a fire truck up close.
Afterward, Chick-fil-A thanked the firefighters for spending time with Vista children and families.
The event was held at Chick-fil-A Hwy 78 & Vista Village, located at 475 Hacienda Drive. The restaurant opened in April 2022.
Touch-a-Truck was not the location’s first large Family Night.
Chick-fil-A previously reported providing free Kids’ Meals to 332 children during its Bubble Bash event.
So Vista families will show up for bubbles.
Add a fire engine, however, and the chicken count climbs.
The Important Part Happened Before Any Emergency
A fire engine is impressive when you are six.
Meeting the people inside it may matter even more.
No smoke. No sirens. No frightening emergency. Just children getting acquainted with firefighters and equipment they might otherwise encounter on a very bad day.
Community education is part of Vista Fire Rescue’s official work. Its Fire Prevention Bureau participates in public fire-safety events, and organizations can request educational appearances from the department.
Vista Fire Rescue operates from six stations and serves the City of Vista and the Vista Fire Protection District.
Its combined service area covers 36.5 square miles and a population the city lists at 120,533.
That is considerably more territory than one chicken-sandwich parking lot.
Six Fire Stations Are Opening Their Doors
Families who missed Touch-a-Truck will have six more opportunities to meet Vista Fire Rescue personnel during Fire Prevention Month.
Each open house runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and includes hands-on demonstrations, safety information, snacks and prizes.

Costumes are welcome Oct. 31, and the city says candy will be available.
Because nothing says fire prevention quite like discussing safety with a miniature dinosaur carrying a plastic pumpkin.
