Yes, it's August. Yes, we're talking about Christmas.
But when one of San Marcos' biggest holiday celebrations starts selling tickets before Labor Day, we're calling that permission to get a little ahead of ourselves.
Winter Wonderland is returning to Lakehouse Resort at Lake San Marcos for the 2026 holiday season, transforming the waterfront into a Southern California version of a winter escape — heavy on the twinkle lights, light on the actual snow.
And this year, the lake is getting the full holiday treatment.
Christmas Lights Meet Palm Trees
Lakehouse Resort currently lists Winter Wonderland from 4 to 9 p.m. on select dates from Nov. 28 through Dec. 26.
The resort's Lakeside Lawn will be decked out with holiday lights and seasonal decorations, with festive food and drinks available throughout the celebration.
Families can also head to the Frozen Fun Zone, which Lakehouse says will include the Lakehouse Express train, s'mores and a Build-a-Buddy experience.
In other words, this isn't just a "drive by and admire the lights" situation.
There are things to do, things to eat and, presumably, plenty of opportunities for somebody in the family to insist on taking one more Christmas photo.
A Holiday Cruise — Because This Is San Marcos
One of the more unusual attractions is returning, too: Candy Cane Cruises on Lake San Marcos.
Guests can take a holiday-themed boat ride around the lake and see the festivities from the water.
Snow-covered sleigh? Not exactly.
A Christmas cruise surrounded by palm trees and twinkling lights? We'll happily accept the Southern California substitute.
Those Lakeside Igloos Are Coming Back
For groups looking to make an evening of it, Lakehouse is also bringing back its private lakeside igloo experiences.
The resort is advertising two-hour igloo experiences for groups of up to eight people, along with a larger Grand Igloo Dining Experience accommodating as many as 12 guests.
Packages vary and can include food, wine, dessert boards and dedicated service.
They're not exactly Arctic igloos — thankfully — but sitting inside one beside the lake with holiday lights glowing outside certainly ups the Christmas-card factor.
Brickmans Is Joining the Party
The holiday takeover doesn't stop at the lawn.
Brickmans Restaurant & Bar is scheduled to bring back its own Winter Wonderland experience from Nov. 28 through Dec. 31, beginning at 3 p.m. daily and continuing until close.
Lakehouse describes the restaurant experience as family-friendly, with elaborate holiday décor and seasonal cocktails. Dining room and patio reservations will be available, while bar seating is walk-in.
So yes, you can apparently go from Candy Cane Cruise to holiday cocktail without ever leaving Lake San Marcos.
That's efficient Christmasing.
Tickets Are Already on Sale
General admission to Lakehouse Winter Wonderland is currently listed at $10 for guests ages 10 and older, with complimentary admission for Lakehouse hotel guests. Food, beverages and individual attractions are additional.
Lakehouse is also advertising early-bird pricing and bonuses on select igloo packages for bookings made before Nov. 27.

It may feel ridiculously early to start thinking about the holidays.
Then again, November has a habit of showing up approximately 15 minutes after Labor Day.
Maybe Lakehouse is onto something.

I agree, feels too soon but time flies. Might try to do early tickets this year before stuff sells out.

We need real snow in San Marcos just once! But the twinkle lights will have to do.
Love the idea of doing the cruise then grabbing a cocktail at Brickmans. That’s my kind of holiday spirit.
Wish they had a discount for bigger families. It adds up quick with food and activities too.

We went last year and the lights on the palm trees were actually really pretty! It felt different but fun.
$10 for admission doesn't sound too bad, but I hope the food isn’t super pricey. The s’mores are calling my name though.
Every year those igloos look so cozy but I'm never organized enough to book in time. Maybe 2026 will be my year.
