SD Sabers Hockey Seeking a Few More Host Families for 2026–27 Season

Local families can help young hockey players from around the world pursue their dreams by providing a supportive home during the upcoming season.

The SD Sabers are putting out a final call to North County families: they still need a few more host homes for junior hockey players for the 2026–27 season.

The organization is seeking families in the Carlsbad and greater San Diego area willing to open their homes to players ages 17–20 who come from around the world to pursue their hockey goals.

For local families, it’s an opportunity to do something meaningful without having to lace up a pair of skates.

What Is an SD Sabers Hockey Host Family?

Host families provide a safe, supportive place for a junior hockey player to live during the season.

According to the team’s host-family appeal, the players are generally independent and self-sufficient. What they need most is something fairly simple: a welcoming home to return to at the end of the day.

These young athletes have often traveled a long way from their own families while pursuing the chance to advance in hockey. Living with a local family gives them stability and a sense of home while they train, compete and adjust to life in a new community.

And the experience can go both ways.

Host-family programs give local families an opportunity to get to know a young athlete from another city, state or country, follow his journey through the season and become part of the hockey community in a much more personal way.

Who Can Become a Host Family?

The Sabers are looking for families in the Carlsbad/Vista/San Marcos/San Diego area for the upcoming 2026–27 season.

You don't necessarily need to be a hockey family already. The most important part is being able to provide the kind of safe and supportive home environment these young players need while away from their own families.

And with only a few more host homes still needed, interested families are encouraged to reach out soon rather than waiting until the season gets closer.
