From the Sidelines: Vista Football Through a Dad’s Lens

There are plenty of ways to follow a football game.

You can check the score. Read the stats. Scroll through the results.

Or you can see it through the eyes of a dad who was actually there.

A Panther Family on the Sidelines

North Valley Flare reader Eduardo Javier Aguilar had a pretty good reason to spend August 21 around Vista football.

His son, Eduardo Aguilar Jr. (#36), plays on the Panthers JV team and has also been asked to be available for varsity.

So Dad had his camera ready — and we're glad he did.

Eduardo shared photos from the JV action along with video clips from later that night, giving us a community-eye view of a full day of Panthers football.

The JV photo give us a glimpse at some of the younger Panthers putting in the work — including #36, Eduardo Aguilar Jr., where clearly pictured.

The JV team came out the victor over Sweetwater with a score of 8-0. 

And then came Friday night.

One Point. That's All That Separated Them

Vista's varsity matchup with Sweetwater turned into the kind of game that makes people very glad they didn't leave early.

The Panthers came away with a 47–46 victory.

Eduardo captured several pieces of the action on video, and we pulled some of our favorites together into one highlight reel.

There's something different about seeing a game this way.

It's not the television angle. It's not a professionally staged highlight package. It's football the way parents and fans actually experience it — from the stands and sidelines, with the lights on and the game unfolding right in front of them.

This Is “From the Sidelines”

That's exactly what we want this new North Valley Flare feature to be.

From the Sidelines is a place for the photos and videos being captured every week by the people who are already there — parents, coaches, students, fans and other members of our Vista and San Marcos communities.

Football. Volleyball. Flag football. Soccer. Basketball. Baseball. And everything else our local athletes are out there playing.

We can't be standing on every sideline.

Fortunately, you can.

And when you capture something worth sharing, we'd love to help more of the community see it.
