A Golden Ticket Arrives in Vista: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Opens Next Week

Summer theater season is back in Vista with one of the world's most beloved stories taking center stage at Moonlight Amphitheatre.

A Sweet Summer Tradition Returns

Summer theater season is back in Vista, and one of the world's most beloved stories is about to take center stage.

Beginning July 9, Moonlight Stage Productions will present Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Moonlight Amphitheatre, inviting audiences of all ages to step inside Willy Wonka's extraordinary world of imagination, music, and unforgettable adventure.

Based on Roald Dahl's classic novel and the Broadway musical, the production follows Charlie Bucket, a kind-hearted boy whose life changes forever after discovering one of the five coveted Golden Tickets hidden inside Wonka chocolate bars. Charlie joins four other children on a once-in-a-lifetime tour through the mysterious chocolate factory, where every room reveals incredible inventions, larger-than-life characters, and valuable lessons about honesty, gratitude, and kindness.

A Show for Every Generation

Whether you grew up reading the book, watching the classic film, or are introducing the story to your children or grandchildren for the first time, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory offers something for everyone.

The musical blends familiar favorites with new songs created for the Broadway production while bringing the magical world of Willy Wonka to life through colorful costumes, creative staging, and energetic performances. It's the kind of show that encourages plenty of laughter, sparks the imagination, and leaves audiences with a smile long after the final curtain call.

An Outdoor Theater Experience

Part of what makes the experience so memorable is the venue itself.

Located in Brengle Terrace Park, Moonlight Amphitheatre has been entertaining North County audiences for decades and has earned a reputation for producing professional-quality musicals in a beautiful outdoor setting. Watching a live performance under the evening sky has become a summer tradition for many local families, couples, and theater lovers throughout the region.

This year's production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory continues that tradition and is expected to be one of the season's most family-friendly performances.

Plan Your Visit

Opening night is Wednesday, July 9, with performances running through Saturday, July 26.

Evening performances begin at 8:00 p.m., with select matinee performances scheduled for July 12, 13, 19, 20, and 26 at 2:00 p.m.

If you're looking for a fun family outing, a unique date night, or simply an opportunity to enjoy live theater close to home, this production is well worth considering.

You may not discover a Golden Ticket hidden inside a chocolate bar, but you can still experience a little magic this summer—right here in Vista.
