The bocce balls can roll again at Brengle Terrace Park.
All four bocce ball courts at Brengle Terrace Park in Vista are open again after weeks of renovation.
The City of Vista confirmed the reopening in an official announcement, ending a closure that began August 24.
For local players, that means the familiar game of getting a ball closest to the pallino is back on the calendar.
What Changed on All Four Courts
The city installed new wooden surrounds and refreshed the oyster-shell playing surfaces on all four bocce courts.
Those improvements focus on the playing areas themselves, rather than a wholesale makeover of Brengle Terrace Park.
A Reopening That Slipped Past the Original Estimate
When the city announced the closure in August, it estimated the courts would reopen during the first week of October.
A September update shifted that estimate to the second week of October.
The city has now confirmed the courts are open, but its reopening notice does not specify the precise day work finished.
Anyone who visited earlier in October and found the courts closed can now plan another trip.
Vista Residents Have Asked About Bocce
The renovation has a connection to the city's wider conversation about park improvements.
In Vista's 2024 Parks and Recreation Needs Assessment, 47 respondents—11.4% of those answering that question—selected bocce ball courts as an improvement or addition they wanted at Brengle Terrace Park.
That does not mean 11.4% of all Vista residents wanted new courts; it is a survey result, not a citywide vote.
But it shows bocce appeared among the recreation priorities residents were asked to consider.
For a game that rarely gets a headline, that is noteworthy.
Where to Play and Who to Call
Brengle Terrace Park is at 1200 Vale Terrace Drive, Vista, CA 92084.
The city's facility directory lists bocce and horseshoes among the park's amenities, along with picnic areas, sports facilities and the Moonlight Amphitheatre.
The city's published park map also identifies the bocce court area, useful for visitors unfamiliar with the grounds.
For maintenance questions, Vista lists Public Works at 760-643-5458.
For park or facility rental questions, the city lists 760-643-5268 and 760-643-5272.
Those contacts are a better starting point for organized play than guessing at court rules.
Brengle Terrace also has the Moonlight Amphitheatre and other recreation facilities, so there's plenty else to do at the park.
