Taco Tuesday in San Marcos: Where to Start Your Taco Search
From birria trucks to Tuesday-only tacos, a practical San Marcos guide for the best day of the week to be hungry

Taco Tuesday does not need much marketing.

It is Tuesday, tacos exist, and most of us understand the assignment.

In San Marcos, Tuesday can mean a true one-day-only taco menu, a birria stop with its own following, or a taco-focused restaurant where everybody at the table can go in a different direction.

A true Tuesday-only taco stop

San Elijo Vine & Tap lists tacos specifically for Tuesdays from 4 to 8:30 p.m.

The current menu shows carne asada tacos with guacamole, pico de gallo and cilantro, plus a veggie version with peppers, onions, avocado, cotija and chipotle crema.

That is not a permanent everyday taco menu pretending to be a Tuesday special; those tacos are listed as Tuesday-only.

Birria has its own Tuesday following

La Cocina del Abuelo openly promotes Taco Tuesday around its birria-focused menu.

The family-run operation specializes in birria tacos, quesabirria and other birria dishes, making it a natural choice if your Tuesday craving involves consommé and crispy edges.

And then there is Taco Bar

Taco Bar inside Grand Plaza is open Tuesdays and has built its menu around street tacos and specialty tacos rather than treating them as an occasional side item.

Its lineup stretches from familiar meats to birria and seafood, so it works well when one person wants al pastor and somebody else is determined to order fish or shrimp.

Three stops, three different Taco Tuesday moods

The nice thing about these three San Marcos options is that they are not interchangeable.

San Elijo Vine & Tap is the pick when you want a Tuesday-specific menu and a sit-down evening. La Cocina del Abuelo makes sense when birria is the craving. Taco Bar is the easy choice for a group that wants plenty of taco styles under one roof.

That gives Taco Tuesday a little more personality than simply finding the nearest plate of tacos.

Make Tuesday the start, not the whole plan

San Marcos has enough food news that Taco Tuesday can easily become the first stop in a longer local list.

Readers looking beyond tacos can catch up on BHC Chicken’s San Marcos arrival or revisit Mama Kat’s return.

The point is not to eat all of it on Tuesday — although we respect ambition — but to keep a running list for the next time nobody in the car can answer “where should we go?”

Questions You May Have About Taco Tuesday in San Marcos

Where can I get birria on Taco Tuesday? La Cocina del Abuelo is a birria-focused San Marcos option and specifically promotes Taco Tuesday.

Should I verify specials before going? Yes. Restaurant specials, prices and hours can change, so check the restaurant’s current menu or social page before making a special trip.

I like Taco Bar in Grand Plaza, but do they have a Tuesday special? Their shrimp tacos are worth a stop either way.

Tuesday-only tacos at San Elijo Vine & Tap sound good. Nice to see a veggie option too!
