San Marcos Sports Roundup: Knights and Grizzlies Make Wednesday Their Own |
Flag football wins lead a week of volleyball, field hockey and cross-country highlights across San Marcos. |
Wednesday's girls flag football scores came with a warning for anyone facing a San Marcos team: you might want to bring an extra scoreboard operator.
San Marcos High beat Carlsbad 27–6 on October 21. Across town, Mission Hills blanked San Dieguito Academy 39–0. That's 66 combined points from the Knights and Grizzlies, while their opponents managed six. Not exactly a nail-biting evening.
The Knights Bring the Offense
Carlsbad showed up for a flag football game. The Knights apparently had other plans. San Marcos walked away with a 27–6 victory—and a 21-point margin that left very little suspense.
The Knights have been giving opponents plenty to think about this fall. On Wednesday, Carlsbad got the latest reminder. Twenty-seven points will do that.
Meanwhile, across town, Mission Hills took one look at that 27-point performance and apparently decided there was room to raise the stakes.
Mission Hills Puts Up a Zero of Its Own
Mission Hills' 39–0 win over San Dieguito Academy was the other big girls flag football headline from October 21.
Thirty-nine points is impressive. Holding the other team to zero? That's the kind of finishing touch a defense loves—and an opposing offense would rather forget.
And that's how two schools turned the same Wednesday into a pretty memorable night for girls flag football. But the good news didn't stop when everyone traded their cleats for gym shoes.
Knights Volleyball Adds a Sweep
The Knights had something to celebrate inside the gym, too. San Marcos girls varsity volleyball defeated La Costa Canyon 3–0 on October 15, according to MaxPreps.
No fourth set. No fifth-set drama. Just a three-set sweep and a trip home without needing to test everyone's bedtime.
And if you thought 3–0 was a tidy score, Mission Hills field hockey had a rather larger number in mind.
Mission Hills Field Hockey Has a Big Afternoon
Mission Hills defeated Escondido 10–0 on October 21, according to the San Diego Prep Insider results shared with North Valley Flare.
Ten goals. Not a typo. Mission Hills put up double digits while keeping Escondido off the board entirely. The Grizzlies' field hockey team clearly wasn't interested in a quiet Wednesday.
Between flag football and field hockey, the Grizzlies posted two shutouts on the same day. The opponents changed. That zero didn't.
Another San Marcos Runner to Watch
Of course, not every impressive number needs a scoreboard. Sometimes all you need is a pair of running shoes and a clock. At Palomar League Cluster No. 2, Mission Hills' McKenna Sanchez finished ninth in the girls race in 18:28.7.
A ninth-place finish in 18:28.7 takes more than a good pair of sneakers. Sanchez earned her spot among the top 10, giving Mission Hills a highlight that didn't require a goal, a touchdown or a scoreboard operator.
So there you have it: the Knights were busy winning on the field and court, the Grizzlies were collecting shutouts, and the runners kept the clocks honest. Not a bad week to be following San Marcos sports.
