Vista Woman's Club Volunteers Help Sort 5,000 Pounds of Food

Twelve local volunteers joined a North County Food Bank shift—and residents now have a new Vista pantry location to know.

Five thousand pounds of produce. That's a lot of sweet potatoes, bell peppers and pears.

And it's what a group of Vista volunteers helped prepare for families facing food insecurity. According to a Woman's Club of Vista announcement dated October 6, twelve members joined other volunteers at the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank's North County warehouse.

It was the club's sixth volunteer visit. But there's another piece of useful news for Vista residents: the Food Bank's local pantry has moved.

A Morning That Added Up

The club says its members helped sort and bag more than 5,000 pounds of fresh produce for distribution around the county. That figure represents the combined volunteer effort, not necessarily the work of those twelve women alone.

The distinction doesn't make the contribution any less meaningful. Sorting food takes time, teamwork and a willingness to do work that rarely gets applause.

For the families receiving groceries, though, those bags are far from ordinary.

Why the Club Keeps Coming Back

The Woman's Club of Vista has a long history of volunteer service and community fundraising. Its Chamber listing describes partnerships with organizations including the Food Bank, Boys & Girls Club of Vista and Alta Vista Botanical Gardens.

The club also supports scholarships and grants for local causes. Its members' recent Food Bank visit coincided with the broader awareness campaign surrounding hunger and nutrition insecurity.

And it shows how a local service group can contribute through hands-on work, not only donations.

The North County Food Bank Has a New Address

Here's something readers may want to save. The Food Bank's Client Choice Pantry moved to 2260 Oak Ridge Way in Vista, with operations at the new location beginning October 3.

The organization lists Tuesday through Saturday hours of 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3:30 p.m., with a closure on the fourth Friday of each month. First-time visitors may stop by without an appointment for intake, according to the Food Bank's instructions.

Subsequent visits generally require appointments. Check the official pantry page for registration cutoffs and holiday closures. The pantry offers a variety of food items, with availability depending on donations and inventory.

Want to Help? Start Here

The Food Bank has volunteer opportunities for individuals and organized groups. Schedules and age requirements vary by shift, so check its official volunteer portal rather than simply arriving at the warehouse.

A few hours sorting groceries may not solve food insecurity across San Diego County. But for a neighbor who needs food this week, the work matters.

Can't volunteer right now? The Food Bank also accepts donations. Its website explains what kinds of food and financial contributions are useful, along with current drop-off procedures. Check those details before bringing fresh or perishable items. Supporting food assistance can take several forms, and the most helpful contribution is one the organization can safely put to work.
