A Vista Coffee Break With a Thank-You on the Side |
Sip & Self-Care’s October announcement pairs time for yourself with appreciation for local firefighters—and connects to earlier community kindness projects. |
Put down the to-do list. Pick up a pencil.
An October Sip & Self-Care gathering at Ascend Coffee Roasters in Vista offers a different kind of midday assignment: color, connect with others and write an appreciation note for a local firefighter.
A break for you. A thank-you for somebody else.
That’s a lot more interesting than another appointment to discuss appointments.
Ninety Minutes Off the Clock
According to the announcement, the gathering is scheduled for Wednesday, October 21, from 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m., at Ascend Coffee Roasters in Vista.
Ascend’s official website confirms its Vista address as 802 S. Santa Fe Avenue.
The invitation names Helen of A Frame of Art and Donna of Anoint for Wellness as hosts.
Their business websites identify them as Helen Tjaden and Donna Weber.
A Frame of Art describes itself as locally owned and operated in San Marcos. Anoint for Wellness lists Donna in Vista.
The October invitation says attendance is free, with voluntary donations welcome when the group chooses a community kindness project.
Complimentary drinks are not specified. Your coffee budget should remain on duty.
The planned activities include coloring, conversation, simple everyday self-care ideas and appreciation notes for local firefighters.
The announcement does not identify which department or stations will receive them.
The Kindness Has a Local Address
The community projects give this gathering a story beyond taking a break.
A March Sip & Self-Care announcement at Masa Madre in Vista requested new or gently used books for the Woman’s Club of Vista’s Bubbles & Books project.
The club’s own website explains what that program does: supplies free English and Spanish children’s books at three Vista laundromats. Members replenish the shelves regularly.
A book while the clothes tumble. Finally, something at the laundromat that doesn’t require quarters.
The sources establish the collection request and the literacy program. They do not establish how many books the gathering collected or delivered.
September’s announcement at Ascend requested pencils, markers, crayons, dry-erase markers and glue sticks for Hannalei Elementary School.
Those are specific, useful invitations to contribute. No grand gesture required. Sometimes the starting point is a gently used book or a pack of pencils.
A Little Ink Goes Into the Thank-You
First-responder appreciation also appears in Donna’s earlier project accounts.
In a 2024 update, she reported collaborating with Color Me Joyful, an adult coloring group, to thank Vista Fire Department Station 4.
Her July 2026 gathering recap described writing notes for sheriff’s deputies, EMTs and dispatchers, intended for delivery at National Night Out.
Those details come from the organizer’s accounts. Subsequent delivery of July’s notes was not independently confirmed.
October’s announcement returns to appreciation, this time for local firefighters.
The thread connecting these activities is practical: gather around a table, then consider somebody beyond it.
Books. School supplies. A handwritten thank-you.
For Vista readers, that gives the coffee break a little more substance—and gives the pencil something useful to do.
