They Hauled the Band Gear. Now Frank Zummo Has Their Vista Brewery on His Schedule. |
Roadies Brewing’s marching-band roots give a scheduled October 24 workshop a local connection beyond the name behind the drum kit. |
Before the beer, there were band props.
And instruments that were not going to move themselves.
Diane and Sean Hilz trace The Roadies Brewing Co. name to supporting their daughter Natalie’s high-school marching band.
They built props and hauled gear—the necessary work that usually happens outside the spotlight.
Now, their Vista brewery appears on Frank Zummo’s 2026 fall workshop schedule.
The drummer, known for his work with Sum 41 and Street Drum Corps, lists a Roadies visit for Saturday, October 24.
Parents helping a student musician. A drummer with a history of teaching students.
Put those stories together, and this announcement has a little more rhythm.
The Local Story Starts Backstage
Roadies’ own history connects the brewery’s identity to its founders’ years supporting their daughter’s band.
That is a different starting point from a business name dreamed up over a branding meeting.
The props needed building. The instruments needed hauling. Somebody had to do it.
Applause is lovely. It remains remarkably unhelpful when moving equipment.
For Vista and San Marcos readers, those beginnings give the workshop a local thread worth following.
The founders’ story is about supporting music from behind the scenes. Zummo’s documented relationship with School of Rock adds the teaching connection.
A Familiar Face to School of Rock
School of Rock reported a June 2021 workshop tour in which Zummo met students across the southwestern United States.
His relationship with the music school therefore predates this Vista announcement. Eventbrite lists the October event’s organizer as School of Rock – Northwest.
Zummo’s official website presents his current fall workshop schedule under a book-tour announcement.
His book, Unbreakable Rhythm: My Journey Through Music, Wellness, & Mental Strength, is published by Modern Drummer Publications.
The publisher describes themes including discipline, wellness, mindfulness and supporting younger musicians.
Those subjects belong to the book’s description. The detailed Vista workshop program remains unconfirmed.
Individual instruction, particular lessons and a chance for every attendee to play have not been verified. The teaching history is established; the exact experience still needs clarification.
One Date. Two Published Times.
The event listing gives 1495 Poinsettia Avenue in Vista. Roadies’ official address specifies Unit 148.
Eventbrite advertises 11:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Zummo’s website lists noon.
Neither accessible listing explains the difference. Calling 11:30 “doors open” would be guessing with confidence—the least useful kind of directions.
The venue also has a recent development.
A September 25 San Diego Beer News report, quoting co-owner Diane Hilz, described plans to reopen October 1 after an August closure, with new business partners.
That supports the reported reopening plan. Actual reopening has not been independently confirmed for this article.
Before purchasing, confirm the time, admission requirements and venue arrangements with the organizer.
The local connection is clear: Roadies’ name began with helping a marching band. Now, it is on a touring drummer’s workshop schedule.
