The Roadies Brewing Is Closing Again. Apparently, the Comeback Came Without the Cash.
Just 16 days after reopening, Vista's music-themed brewery is preparing for another last call. The investors who were supposed to help save the day? Well, there's a plot twist.

Apparently, getting a second chance in the brewery business doesn't come with a warranty.

Just two weeks after The Roadies Brewing made its much-celebrated return to Vista, the brewery is preparing to close again. And if you're wondering how a business goes from a promising comeback to another farewell in just 16 days, the answer involves prospective investors, missing funding, and a partnership that didn't quite make it across the finish line.

Unfortunately, the brewery's bills didn't get the memo.

The Comeback That Had Everyone Raising a Glass

When The Roadies Brewing closed at the end of August, it looked like the final curtain for the music-themed taproom on Poinsettia Avenue.

Then came the kind of announcement every small-business owner dreams about: prospective partners with big plans and the promise of a fresh start.

The proposed partnership included Metrico Hospitality Group owners John Collazo, Dax Parra, and Daniel Torres, along with Leo Garcia of nearby Mexico City Cuisine. Plans reportedly included expanding beer distribution throughout Southern California and adding food service.

Not exactly a small undertaking. But for a brewery trying to find its footing, it sounded like a pretty good encore.

The Roadies reopened October 1, giving its customers another reason to raise a glass.

One Tiny Problem: The Funding

According to an October 16 report by San Diego Beer News, owners Diane and Sean Hilz learned during an October 15 meeting that the prospective investors couldn't secure the additional funding needed to move forward.

Garcia was reportedly unable to provide his anticipated investment either.

That's a fairly significant detail when the entire comeback is counting on financial backing.

To be clear, those details come from the owners' account as reported by San Diego Beer News. North Valley Flare has not independently confirmed the prospective investors' explanations.

The Doors Were Open. The Expenses Were Real.

Here's where the story stops being merely ironic and starts getting expensive.

Reopening a brewery means bringing employees back, getting equipment running, and preparing to serve customers again. According to the report, the Hilzes even hired a brewer with previous Stone Brewing experience after reopening.

The brewery had also reopened earlier than the owners initially preferred, while important pieces of the operation were still being put in place.

All of that takes money, whether the anticipated investment arrives or not. And after 16 days of operating without the expected funding, the owners are facing another closure.

For employees who returned to work believing the business had a future, that's no laughing matter.

Another Last Call for Vista

The Roadies Brewing, located at 1495 Poinsettia Avenue, Unit 148, in Vista, is reportedly planning its final day of service for Sunday, October 18.

Could another investor appear and save the day? Anything is possible, but no new arrangement has been confirmed. And after this particular roller coaster, it's probably wise not to start printing the grand-reopening banners just yet.

For Vista's craft beer fans, it's a disappointing development. The Roadies had already survived one goodbye, found a reason to reopen, and welcomed its community back.

Unfortunately, a good comeback story still needs a business plan that comes with actual funding.

And this one appears to have run out of both time and money.
