San Marcos Sports Roundup: Flag Football Stars Dominate Rankings as Knights Deliver Shutouts
San Marcos and Mission Hills athletes climb county leaderboards, while field hockey and water polo teams deliver another exciting week of fall competition.

Want to know who's making noise in San Marcos girls flag football?

Start with Miyah Holmes.

Then keep reading—because she's got company.

As of October 14, the San Marcos High standout sat atop San Diego Prep Insider's county receiving leaderboard with 1,631 yards through 19 games.

That's a season total, and it's one of several impressive numbers coming out of San Marcos and Mission Hills.

Miyah Holmes Leads the County

Holmes wasn't just leading in receiving yards. She also ranked second in total touchdowns with 31, including 25 receiving scores.

And San Marcos has another name on the leaderboard: Finlee Hovis. She ranked fourth in rushing with 1,116 yards through 19 games.

Two different ways to move the ball. Two Knights putting up numbers that have earned attention beyond their own sideline.

Mission Hills Brings Serious Passing Numbers

Over at Mission Hills, quarterback Kenzie Del Gatto was third in county passing yards with 3,960 through 16 games.

Her touchdown total?

Forty-four.

The Grizzlies also had two receivers among the county leaders.

Catie Kaminski ranked seventh with 1,227 yards, while Kenley Imoto was 14th with 1,037.

One important detail: these rankings were published October 14 and reflect season-to-date performances.

They aren't totals from the October 8–14 reporting week.

Two Games. Two Shutouts. Five Goals.

San Marcos field hockey had a pretty simple formula for success this week: score goals, don't allow any.

The Knights defeated La Costa Canyon 2–0 on October 8 and followed up with a 3–0 win over Rancho Bernardo on October 13.

That adds up to two victories, five goals scored and none surrendered. Not a bad way to make a statement on the field.

The Grizzlies Stay Busy in the Pool

Mission Hills boys water polo played five reported games during the week—and won three of them.

The Grizzlies beat Chula Vista 17–4 on October 8, Canyon Hills 13–6 on October 10 and High Tech San Diego 6–4 on October 13.

Two tournament losses brought their record for the stretch to 3–2.

San Marcos High also picked up an 11–10 water polo win over Rancho Buena Vista on October 8, according to MaxPreps.

Flag football leaderboards, field hockey shutouts and wins in the pool: it's the kind of week that gives San Marcos sports fans plenty to talk about.
