San Marcos Packs October With Plenty of Reasons to Get Connected |
Workshops, Harvest Fest, young professionals and a City Connect mixer keep the Chamber calendar busy all month |

If October had a networking setting, San Marcos apparently turned it all the way up.
The San Marcos Chamber of Commerce still has a packed stretch ahead this month, with everything from employer training and government updates to young-professional networking, a street festival and a mixer that puts local decision-makers in the same room as the people who live and do business here.
And yes, we checked the fine print.
These are Chamber events and programs, not the unrelated community listings that also appear on the Chamber calendar.
First up is Internships 101, a free workshop for employers happening today, Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Hunter Industries Human Resources Building, 1960 Diamond Street.
The workshop brings together representatives from Hunter Industries, San Marcos Unified, Cal State San Marcos and Palomar College to help employers build stronger internship programs.
Basically: less guessing, better internships.
Government Affairs follows Thursday, Oct. 8, at 8 a.m. at 251 North City Drive. The monthly meeting is open to Chamber members and the community and includes updates from government and local agencies.
Then Friday belongs to the next generation.
The San Marcos Young Professionals Group meets Oct. 9 from noon to 1 p.m. at Union Cowork, 251 North City Drive, Suite 128F. It is a brown-bag lunch, so bring your own food and, ideally, an opinion.
The group will work on its mission statement and begin talking about leadership roles. It is open to all young professionals, not just Chamber members.
Sunday is the big one.
San Marcos Harvest Fest takes over North City Drive on Oct. 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with more than 250 vendors, local makers, food, beer, wine, cider and live music on the Main Stage.
Admission is free.
Two hundred and fifty vendors is less “quick Sunday stop” and more “wear comfortable shoes.”
On Wednesday, Oct. 14, the Chamber shifts from festival mode to face-to-face networking with its City Connect Business Mixer from 5 to 7 p.m. at Draft Republic San Marcos, 255 Redel Road.
The Chamber says invited guests include the mayor and City Council, City staff, the fire chief, the Sheriff's Station captain and leaders from local schools and colleges. Advance tickets are $25 for members and $45 for nonmembers; at the door, those prices rise to $35 and $55.
That is a lot of local decision-making power near the appetizer table.
Coffee Connections returns Wednesday, Oct. 21. The Chamber calendar confirms the event is scheduled, but its current listing contains a stale reference when identifying the host, so we are leaving that detail out until it is cleanly confirmed.
No guessing around here.
October wraps with Plates for 8 on Wednesday, Oct. 28, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Cocina Del Charro, 1020 W. San Marcos Blvd., Suite 50.
This one is intentionally small: eight Chamber members, one table and actual time to talk. RSVP is required, and the only cost is your own meal.
Sometimes smaller really is better.
When is San Marcos Harvest Fest?
Sunday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. along North City Drive. Admission is free.
Can nonmembers attend the City Connect mixer?
Yes. Advance admission is $45 for nonmembers, or $55 at the door.
Is the Young Professionals lunch only for Chamber members?
No. The Oct. 9 meeting is open to all young professionals.
Who can attend Plates for 8?
It is limited to San Marcos Chamber members, with only eight spots available and an RSVP required. |

Glad Palomar is part of the internship workshop. Students need those connections.
The City Connect mixer sounds useful. $45 is steep for nonmembers.
Harvest Fest sounds fun. I'll be wearing comfortable shoes.
