San Marcos’ Harvest Fest Needs Volunteers. The Tables Will Not Move Themselves.

The October 11 festival has posted jobs and openings. A little homework helps volunteers find the right fit.

The music gets applause.

The tables get moved.

Somebody has to handle both.

San Marcos Harvest Fest is recruiting volunteers for Sunday, October 11, 2026, at North City.

The public event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. along North City Drive. The San Marcos Chamber of Commerce organizes the festival, and North City advertises free admission.

Free to attend.

Still work to assemble.

The posted assignments include setup, wristbands, ticket sales, shuttle rides and checking vendors’ supplies.

These are the details that sit behind a festival flyer.

And they tell prospective volunteers more than a cheerful “we need you.”

The Signup Sheet Has the Useful Details

The official volunteer page links to five assignment sheets.

They cover event setup, ID checks and wristbands, golf-cart shuttle driving, beer and wine ticket sales, and volunteer floaters.

When checked on September 30, setup was full.

Other assignments still showed openings.

So if moving chairs before breakfast was your preferred contribution, that shift was already spoken for.

Check what is available.

Then read the duties.

A job title is the introduction. The assignment sheet explains what you are actually agreeing to do.

Enthusiasm Does Not Replace a License

Golf-cart shuttle drivers must be at least 21 and have a valid driver’s license.

Their assignment is to transport guests from the parking garage to the festival grounds.

Beer and wine ticket sellers must also be at least 21. They sell drink tickets and handle transactions.

Those requirements are explicitly posted.

The ID-check assignment involves verifying guests’ age eligibility and distributing wristbands for alcohol purchases.

Its sheet does not specify a volunteer age minimum.

Neither does the floater sheet.

That does not establish that minors qualify.

Younger volunteers should ask before signing up. An unanswered age question is still an unanswered age question.

Students: Make Sure the Hours Count

The supplied recruitment announcement promotes school or community-service hours.

The signup sheets reviewed do not explain which schools accept those hours, who verifies completion or what permission minors might need.

Confirm eligibility with the organizer.

Check acceptance with your school.

Ask how completed hours will be documented.

Helping is worthwhile.

Avoiding a paperwork scavenger hunt afterward is worthwhile, too.

The festival website lists the Chamber’s phone number as 760-744-1270.

Get those answers before building your Sunday around a shift.

Your Shift Has Its Own Clock

Public festival hours do not cover every volunteer assignment.

The full setup shift is scheduled for 7–9:30 a.m. The latest shuttle shift finishes at 5:15 p.m.

The afternoon floater assignment runs from 2:45 to 5 p.m.

Its duties include general operations and checking that beer and wine vendors have necessary supplies.

Pick a role that fits your schedule and qualifications.

Find the sheets at smharvest.com/volunteer.

The festival has its attractions.

It also needs people willing to handle the practical parts.

Good to know the setup shift is already full. I’ll check the afternoon floater opening and see if that works for me!
