Roadies Brewing Is Back: Vista’s Brewery Gets Its Encore
After an August farewell, new partners, food service and a wider distribution plan have helped bring the music-themed Vista brewery back

Just over a month ago, Vista was preparing to say goodbye to one of its most distinctive local gathering spots.

Now the amps are coming back on.

The Roadies Brewing Co. has reopened in Vista after closing at the end of August, giving the two-year-old brewery and live-music venue the encore its owners hoped might still be possible.

For anyone who followed the story this summer, this is a pretty remarkable turnaround.

A Final Bow That Wasn't So Final

Owners Diane and Sean Hilz had announced that mounting financial pressure would force them to close the Poinsettia Avenue brewery they spent roughly six years bringing to life.

Roadies poured what was expected to be its final round at the end of August.

Then potential partners stepped in.

Instead of dismantling the brewery, the Hilzes found a path to keep the original Roadies concept alive while adding support intended to make the business stronger.

New Partners Bring Food, Events and Distribution

The new chapter includes partnerships with Mexico City Cuisine, an established catering operation in the same Vista business park, and Metrico Hospitality Group, which operates an event venue in Bonsall.

Mexico City Cuisine owner Leo Garcia is converting his catering kitchen into a full-service restaurant, with plans for Roadies customers to order food by QR code from the tasting room.

That food component is also expected to help Roadies expand into lunch service.

Another group of partners is preparing a distribution company designed to take Roadies beer beyond the tasting room and into retail accounts, festivals and other community events.

In other words, the comeback isn't simply about reopening the same doors.

It's about giving the business more ways to reach customers.

The Music Is Staying

One thing Roadies fans shouldn't expect is a completely different concept.

The brewery's music-first personality, stage, sound system and community focus remain central to the plan.

Several former staff members have committed to return, while the owners have also planned additional hiring.

Roadies was seeking a new head brewer after its previous brewer, Peter Perrecone, moved to another San Diego brewery.

The reopened venue is already putting live music back on the calendar, including performances during its first weekend back.

Why This Comeback Matters in Vista

Roadies was never designed as just another tasting room.

The brewery grew from the Hilz family's years helping behind the scenes with their daughter's Rancho Buena Vista High School marching band and color guard, where parent volunteers became known as “the roadies.”

That history became the theme for a brewery built around craft beer, live performances and the people who make a show happen.

For a local business that appeared to have reached the end of the road in August, October suddenly looks very different.

Questions You May Have About Roadies Brewing

Did Roadies actually close? Yes. The Vista brewery ended regular operations at the end of August before new partners helped create a path to reopen.

Is it still in the same location? Yes. Roadies remains at 1495 Poinsettia Avenue, Unit 148, in Vista.

Is the original ownership still involved? Yes. Diane and Sean Hilz remain part of Roadies and are moving forward with newly invested business partners.

What's new this time? The comeback includes plans for expanded food service, broader distribution, outside-event participation and additional business support while keeping Roadies' beer-and-live-music identity intact.

Glad they found partners. Curious how the QR code food ordering will work when the tasting room gets busy.

So glad Roadies is back. We caught a few shows there, and I'd hate to lose that little stage.
