October Keeps the Vista Chamber Calendar Moving
Ribbon cuttings, government updates, networking and workforce conversations give Vista businesses plenty of reasons to get out of the office this month

October apparently did not get the memo that business calendars are supposed to slow down once summer ends.

The Vista Chamber of Commerce has a little bit of everything lined up this month: government updates, ribbon cuttings, an evening mixer, lunch networking and a workforce conversation before Halloween even gets here.

So much for easing into fall.

Government Affairs gets things started Thursday, Oct. 1, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at The Film Hub, 170 Eucalyptus Ave., with updates from federal, state, county and city government representatives.

An optional lunch is $10.

Then Friday gets interesting.

Solatube International hosts a Green Ribbon Cutting Oct. 2 at 2210 Oak Ridge Way to celebrate its Green Business Innovator Certification.

There is one wrinkle.

The Chamber's main event listing says 10 to 10:45 a.m., while the detailed agenda begins networking at 9:30 a.m. and continues with programming and facility tours through 1:30 p.m.

We would rather tell you that now than send you racing across Vista at the wrong time.

If you plan to attend the larger Solatube program, confirm the timing with the Chamber first.

Next up: giant scissors.

Deja Vu Love Boutique celebrates its 20th anniversary Tuesday, Oct. 6, with a ribbon cutting from 3 to 3:30 p.m. at 2130 Industrial Court.

The celebration is free and open to the public, but attendees must be 18 or older.

Later in the month, Alta Vista Botanical Gardens gets its turn Friday, Oct. 30, from 11 to 11:30 a.m. at 1270 Vale Terrace Drive.

And this one has a pretty great reason.

The free public ribbon cutting celebrates the garden's new Magical Ponytail Palm Maze, which may be one of the more wonderfully specific things we have put on a Chamber calendar lately.

In between all those scissors, there is networking.

The October Business Mixer happens Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Redmond Diamond Center, 3141 Tiger Run Court, Suite 105.

One small plot twist: it is in Carlsbad.

Admission is $10 for Chamber members and $40 for future members.

Apparently good networking does not care where the city-limit sign is.

Business Bites returns Wednesday, Oct. 28, from noon to 1 p.m. at The Flame Broiler, 3295 Business Park Drive.

No event fee.

You just buy your own lunch, which seems fair when lunch is literally in the name.

The Chamber's Education Committee meets later that afternoon from 4 to 5 p.m. at The Film Hub, bringing educators, businesses and community partners together around workforce development and career pathways.

That one is free, too.

Bottom line?

October gives Vista business owners several chances to meet somebody new, learn something useful or simply show up for a local business milestone.

That beats another hour in the inbox.

Questions You May Have

When is the Vista Chamber October mixer?

Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Redmond Diamond Center in Carlsbad.

Are the October ribbon cuttings free?

Yes. The Deja Vu Love Boutique and Alta Vista Botanical Gardens celebrations are free and open to the public, although the Deja Vu event is 18+.

Is Business Bites free?

There is no admission charge, but attendees purchase their own lunch.

Which event should attendees double-check before going?

The Oct. 2 Solatube event, because the official Chamber listing currently contains conflicting time information.
