Neil & Linda Tribute Returns to San Marcos' Bornemann Theatre

The November 20 concert brings classic hits to a local stage with a bigger story: TERI's inclusive performing arts program.

Some songs don't need an introduction.

Just a few notes of “Sweet Caroline” and everybody knows what's coming.

On Friday, November 20, those familiar Neil Diamond favorites share the stage with the music of Linda Ronstadt at The Bornemann in San Marcos.

It's called A Night of Neil & Linda. And no, the original stars aren't performing.

Scott Samuels pays tribute to Diamond, while Penni Hawkins brings Ronstadt's songs to life.

Two Legends, One Local Stage

The concert is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Bornemann Theatre on TERI Campus of Life.

The event listing highlights Diamond hits including “Cracklin' Rosie,” “Song Sung Blue,” “America” and “Sweet Caroline.”

On the Ronstadt side, look for favorites such as “Blue Bayou,” “You're No Good,” “When Will I Be Loved” and “It's So Easy.”

That's plenty of music for an evening of memories.

The selections come from the organizer's promotion; a precise set list hasn't been promised.

Why This Theatre Is Different

The Bornemann isn't just a place to buy a ticket and hear a show.

It's part of TERI Campus of Life, a San Marcos organization offering educational, creative and community programs for people with disabilities.

TERI's arts programming includes opportunities to explore theatre, music and performance.

That makes the venue itself worth knowing about, even for residents who haven't attended a concert there before.

The 200-seat Bornemann Theatre is housed within the Walter J. & Betty C. Zable Foundation Performing Arts Center.

Its intimate setting offers a different experience from a large arena or downtown concert hall.

And it brings live entertainment close to home for Vista and San Marcos audiences.

A Return Engagement

The tribute performers have appeared at The Bornemann before, according to the venue's announcement.

This November concert gives fans another opportunity to hear two distinct musical catalogs in one evening.

Diamond's big choruses and Ronstadt's unmistakable songbook make an interesting pairing.

You might arrive for one artist and leave humming songs from both.

That's the fun of a tribute night: familiar music performed in a new setting.

Before You Head Out

The show is listed for Friday, November 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Bornemann in San Marcos.

The venue advertises complimentary campus parking and requests advance arrangements for accessible seating because availability is limited.

It's also a card-only venue.

For current ticket prices, seat categories and availability, check the official event page at https://events.humanitix.com/a-night-of-neil-and-linda.

Don't rely on an older screenshot for admission details. Ticket inventory can change.

Make an Evening of It

TERI Common Grounds Café advertises pre-show dining on event nights, and the theatre offers concessions.

Check the café's current hours and menu before planning dinner around the performance.

An evening of music can also be an introduction to a local arts venue with a wider community mission.

The songs may be classics.

But for some neighbors, The Bornemann could be a new discovery.

Has anyone eaten at Common Grounds before a show? Curious whether there's enough time for dinner before the 7 p.m. Start.

My mom played Cracklin' Rosie on every road trip. Might take her to this one, especially with the free parking.

I like both singers, but two hours for both songbooks seems a little tight. Hope Penni Hawkins gets plenty of time for Ronstadt.

Blue Bayou in a 200-seat theatre sounds lovely. I had no idea TERI had a performing arts center right here in San Marcos!
