Palomar College Late-Start Classes: Fall Enrollment Isn't Over Yet |
Fast Track 2 begins October 19, but Vista and San Marcos students should check schedules, course requirements and financial aid first. |
Think you missed your chance to take a fall class?
Not necessarily.
Palomar College has another starting line coming up this month. Its Fast Track 2 session begins Monday, October 19, 2026.
For students in Vista and San Marcos, that could mean a chance to move forward without waiting until spring.
But before you hit enroll, there are a few details worth knowing.
October Classes, December Finish Line
Palomar's published schedule lists several three-unit online courses running October 19 through December 19.
Subjects include child development, Chicano studies, health, psychology and sociology.
Among the listings are Child Growth and Development, CDEV C1000; Introduction to Psychology, PSYC C1000; and Introduction to Sociology, SOCI C1000.
There are also courses in Chicano studies and health education.
Here's the catch.
Not every course in the promotional group starts on the same day. United States History from a Chicano Perspective I, CS 101, is listed for November 16 through December 19.
Same fall semester. Different calendar.
And published course listings aren't a guarantee of available seats. Check the live class schedule before making plans.
Online Doesn't Always Mean Entirely at Home
Working students love flexibility.
But the word online deserves a closer look.
The Child Growth and Development section identified as class 73916 includes required in-person observations in early-care or education settings.
That can affect transportation, work schedules and childcare.
Other online classes may use scheduled meetings, independent work or a combination.
Another thing to consider is pace. A shorter term can mean covering material more quickly than in a traditional full-semester class. Make sure the weekly workload fits your schedule.
Read the individual section notes carefully.
It's easier to ask questions before registering than to discover a surprise requirement during week one.
Watch for Familiar Classes With New Numbers
Returning to Palomar after a break?
Your old transcript might look different from the new schedule.
California's common course numbering changes mean some familiar classes now appear under different identifiers.
For example, Palomar lists CHDV 100 as CDEV C1000 and SOC 100 as SOCI C1000 beginning fall 2026. Psychology's PSYC C1000 change began earlier.
A new number doesn't necessarily mean a new class.
Before enrolling, talk with a counselor about credits you've already earned and the courses your education plan actually requires.
Know the Cost Before You Commit
Palomar lists a $46-per-unit enrollment fee.
For a three-unit course, that's $138 before applicable waivers or other charges.
Financial aid needs a separate check.
The college's fall 2026 financial-aid freeze date was September 7. Adding a late-start class afterward generally won't automatically increase grant eligibility.
Some circumstances may qualify for reevaluation, including students enrolled only in late-start courses.
Palomar's official financial aid policy confirms the September 7 freeze date. Contact Financial Aid before counting on additional assistance.
A little planning now can prevent a budget surprise later.
