Free San Marcos Design Workshop: One Room, Two Ways at La-Z-Boy

See how a few thoughtful changes can transform a living room at an October 25 workshop.

Thinking about buying a new sofa?

Before you spend the money, take another look at the room.

That couch you've been blaming might be perfectly fine. The problem could be where it's sitting, the light falling on it or the colors surrounding it.

And there's a free workshop in San Marcos designed to help you see the difference.

One Room. Two Very Different Possibilities.

La-Z-Boy San Marcos is advertising One Room. Two Ways, a fall design workshop on Sunday, October 25, from 10 to 11 a.m.

The idea is simple: see how choices about layout, lighting and materials change the feeling of a living space.

The store's in-house designer, Kayla, is scheduled to lead the session using a cozy fall room display. Guests can explore fabric, leather and wood-finish samples and ask questions along the way.

It's a chance to look beyond the furniture price tag.

Start With What You Already Own

Picture your own living room for a moment.

Is the seating arranged for conversation? Does one corner feel darker than the rest? Are the colors working together or competing for attention?

Those are the kinds of questions worth considering before a major purchase.

A lamp moved to the right spot can change how a room feels. So can rethinking the arrangement of furniture you already have.

The workshop doesn't promise a personal room makeover. It does offer an opportunity to learn how designers approach these choices.

And sometimes a fresh set of eyes is exactly what a familiar space needs.

More Than Fabric Swatches

There's a little fall fun in the mix, too.

The organizer advertises coffee, water, juice and seasonal snacks for attendees. Goodie bags are expected to include a candle, candy or snacks and a 35% off coupon.

Three gift packages are also advertised for a raffle.

Before getting too excited about that coupon, ask a few questions. The listing does not spell out which items qualify, when the offer expires or whether other exclusions apply.

The discount may be appealing. Knowing the fine print matters more.

What About La-Z-Boy's Design Services?

The company also advertises free design assistance beyond this particular workshop.

That broader service can involve discussing room layouts, coordinating finishes and planning around existing pieces. Furniture and delivery, however, are separate purchases.

Don't confuse the hour-long event with a promise of an individual design plan.

If you're interested in more personalized help, ask the San Marcos store what appointments and services are available.

Make a Morning of It

The workshop is listed for Sunday, October 25, at 188 Knoll Road, San Marcos, CA 92069.

Doors are advertised to open at 9:45 a.m. Admission and parking are free, and the organizer requests an RSVP to reserve a spot.

Before you go, confirm registration details with the organizer. Event arrangements can change.

Maybe you'll discover a new color combination. Maybe you'll rethink where the chairs belong.

Either way, your sofa deserves a fair trial.

The 35% coupon sounds nice, but I'd want to know what it covers before making the trip to Knoll Road.

I might try moving our lamps around before replacing the sofa. The workshop sounds like a good place to get ideas!
