Tuesday, October 27, 2026 — Your weekly North Valley Flare guide to Vista and San Marcos. |
🌤️ THE WEEK AHEAD · OCTOBER 27–NOVEMBER 2
Enjoy Tuesday’s sunshine before clouds settle in and temperatures ease later in the week. Across Vista and San Marcos, daytime highs look to range from the upper 60s to upper 70s, with overnight lows mostly in the 50s to low 60s.
Rain or showers are possible Friday through Sunday, so keep a light rain jacket handy for weekend outings and check the forecast before outdoor events. Monday once again brings a chance for brighter skies.

💡 Tip of the Day |
Before you head out, put your phone on low-power mode and take a screenshot of the event address and ticket. It’s a small favor to your future self when reception is spotty or your battery is running low. 📱 |

San Marcos drivers have a new reason to check the clock before heading out: road repairs are beginning along several streets near State Route 78.
The City of San Marcos says crews will work during the day on two roads and overnight on four others, with nighttime construction expected to start October 26. Read More... |
Your ballot is easier to tackle one decision at a time. For Vista and San Marcos voters preparing for November 3, we’ve gathered North Valley Flare’s election coverage here so you can find the explanation you need without hunting through the archive.
Start with your own sample ballot, then use the links below to read our 14 California proposition explainers and Vista Unified’s Measure N coverage. This is a reading guide, not an endorsement list; your residential address determines which local contests appear on your ballot. Read More... |

Before Halloween became an aisle of plastic fangs and snack-size negotiations, it belonged to a colder, darker world. Winter was coming, the harvest mattered, and the dead occupied a place in the season’s stories that no inflatable lawn decoration quite captures.
For Vista and San Marcos readers curious about what lies beneath October 31, the trail leads to Samhain in Ireland. That seasonal festival helped shape today’s mainstream holiday, although the traditions recorded across later centuries cannot all be treated as an unchanged ancient ceremony. Read More... |
The candy bag lands on the kitchen table with the weight of a small mortgage. Your child has collected enough sugar to open a convenience store. Now comes the part nobody dressed up for: checking what came home before any sampling begins.
For Vista and San Marcos families, that check deserves attention this Halloween. Florida’s arsenic findings have raised questions about familiar candies, while traffic, choking hazards and costume shortcuts give parents plenty else to handle. A little preparation beats discovering the problem halfway down the block. Read More... |
Your family can have a memorable October evening without anyone jumping out from behind a curtain. For Vista and San Marcos neighbors who would rather skip haunted attractions—or Halloween altogether—there are ways to enjoy the season without making fear the main event.
Some households make that choice because of faith. Others have young children, sensory needs or a simple preference for pumpkins over pretend blood. None needs to defend the decision. Start with what feels welcoming, then build a plan around that. Read More... |
San Marcos High beat Torrey Pines 35–28 on Friday, October 23, giving the Knights a win on Senior Night. The celebration continued after the game with a drone light show above the stadium.
Mission Hills also won, defeating Rancho Bernardo 31–21. Both San Marcos varsity programs came away with victories, though the games had different stories. Read More... |
Tri-City Christian had plenty to celebrate Friday night. The Eagles beat Orange Glen 41–6 on October 23, giving Vista-area football fans their biggest varsity win of the week.
Rancho Buena Vista lost 37–20 to Westview despite a productive passing game. Vista High fell 35–0 to Fallbrook. Meanwhile, RBV's freshman team had a Valley League championship to celebrate. Read More... |
Valley Center might be getting a little tired of seeing Rancho Buena Vista on the field hockey schedule.
On October 20, the Longhorns handed the Jaguars a 5–0 loss. Sound familiar? It should. The teams have met twice this month, and RBV has scored 15 goals without giving up a single one. Read More... |
Wednesday's girls flag football scores came with a warning for anyone facing a San Marcos team: you might want to bring an extra scoreboard operator.
San Marcos High beat Carlsbad 27–6 on October 21. Across town, Mission Hills blanked San Dieguito Academy 39–0. That's 66 combined points from the Knights and Grizzlies, while their opponents managed six. Not exactly a nail-biting evening. Read More... |

Someone’s Looking Down on the Neighborhood
Is it just us, or is there a face peeking out of those clouds? Randy Becerra caught this sky putting on a show above the rooftops. The palms look perfectly unbothered. Apparently, they’ve seen this sort of thing before.
Thanks to Randy Becerra for sharing his photo—and giving us another reason to look up.

Vista has a new Little Caesars, and its grand opening came with an offer capable of making pizza lovers suddenly very interested in standing in line: free pizza for a year. There was, naturally, a catch. Actually, there were several, because even pizza has paperwork.
The restaurant at 435 Hacienda Drive, Suite 200, celebrated on Saturday, October 17. The first 100 eligible guests who bought Crazy Bread could receive a promotional card for one free large Classic pizza each week for 52 weeks. That's a lot of pizza nights, but it wasn't an unlimited-pizza pass. Read More... |
You know how the dinner conversation goes. Someone suggests pizza, someone asks where, and suddenly choosing a meal takes longer than cooking one. Here’s a new name to tuck away for a future round of that discussion: Fireball Pizzeria.
The North County pop-up lists 823 W. San Marcos Boulevard as its location, putting a San Marcos address behind a business people have encountered at local gatherings. For anyone who likes seeing a small food business find a place of its own, it’s a development worth following. Read More... |

FARMERS MARKET FIND
A jar of jam can turn an ordinary piece of toast into the reason you got out of bed. This week, look for Dormina Jams, listed by the San Marcos Farmers Market as a small, family-owned jam business.
Ask which flavors are available, then imagine a spoonful over yogurt, tucked into a sandwich or served alongside cheese. Check the label for ingredients and storage directions before choosing a jar for your pantry.
