About

This magnificent 1887 Queen Anne Victorian house museum, located in the Sherman Heights Historic District of San Diego, was the home of pianist and Spiritualist Jesse Shepard. Later Shepard began a writing career under the pen name "Francis Grierson." The City of San Diego owns the building; the nonprofit Friends of the Villa Montezuma, Inc. (FOVM) is the operator. In 2026 restoration of the exterior will start so we will not have Friday tours nor be booking weddings. Tours are on Saturdays & Sundays at 1:00 and 2:15. Group tours and school tours made on special days and times. Reserve by texting 619-233-8833. We’ll confirm availability for the tour you want. See our website for details of music, theater, and art events. Visit us!
