Palomar Police Academy Application Deadline Is October 30
The 2027 program starts in January. Applicants need documents ready by 11 p.m. Friday—and a lot of evening time afterward.

Thinking about Palomar College's 2027 Police Academy? The first deadline is Friday, October 30, at 11 p.m. That's for Module III or the full-year program.

Palomar doesn't accept late or incomplete applications. The paperwork matters before you ever put on a uniform.

Module II and Module I have later deadlines, but recruits need to complete the earlier modules first.

The Paperwork That Can Stop an Application

Applicants need a valid driver's license, an autobiography and a California DMV driving record from the past six months.

College transcripts, military records and agency sponsorship letters are required when applicable. The college accepts unofficial college transcripts.

New Palomar students need a nine-digit student number. The academy application instructions explain what to enter if yours is still pending.

The form prefers PDFs, not snapshots of documents. Palomar recommends completing it in one sitting; some applicants have had trouble reopening saved forms.

A Year of Training, Mostly After Work

Accepted recruits begin a mandatory preparation course January 2, 2027, at Palomar's Public Safety Training Center in San Marcos.

Module III runs January 23–March 27. Module II follows April 6–July 1, and Module I runs July 3–December 18.

Training usually meets Tuesday through Thursday from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Recruits must arrive 30 minutes early.

Some weekend hours change. Palomar also recommends allowing another five to ten hours a week for study, assignments and gear preparation.

Evening classes may fit around a day job. That doesn't make this a small commitment.

The $5,230 Estimate Has Fine Print

Palomar's published 2026 fee sheet estimates $5,230 for all three academy modules. That is an estimate, not a guaranteed 2027 price.

The total includes a $1,000 emergency-vehicle operations fee for Module I. Do not add it to the $5,230 again.

Budget separately for transportation, school supplies and uniform upkeep. Palomar warns some expenses are due early, before financial aid arrives.

Who Can Apply—and Who Gets a Seat?

Applicants generally must be at least 20 years old, have a high school diploma or equivalent and meet the academy's other eligibility rules. The college notes limited exceptions to the age requirement.

Complete applicants are invited to interview. Agency-sponsored candidates receive preference, and seats are limited.

After conditional acceptance, recruits must complete fingerprint-based firearms clearance and medical clearance. Physical preparation matters, too.

Graduating does not guarantee a police job. Hiring decisions belong to individual law enforcement agencies.
