Cruisin' Grand Returns to Escondido June 5th |
Iconic weekly car cruise brings classic American automobiles to Grand Avenue |
The Roar of Classic Engines Returns
Escondido's Cruisin' Grand is back for its 26th season, bringing classic American automobiles to downtown every Friday night. Starting June 5, 2026, car enthusiasts and families gather along Grand Avenue to celebrate automotive history. The season runs through September 25, 2026.
The event has been an Escondido staple since 2000. Each year, hundreds of pre-1974 cars and their owners line Grand Avenue and side streets showing off their engines and modifications. About 400 cars are expected to show up each Friday night during the 2026 season.
What to Expect
Cruisin' Grand takes place from 4 to 9 p.m. every Friday. Grand Avenue closes to regular traffic, allowing vehicles to cruise the route and park for display. The event focuses on 1973 and earlier American-made Classics, Customs, Vintage, Muscle, and Hot Rods cruising Grand Avenue.
Each week is hosted by a different car club and follows a different theme. Weekly awards are granted to five different cars. Live music from local bands and DJs adds to the festivities. Opening night on June 5 is hosted by the Poway Cruisers.
Special Theme Nights
This year's season includes several special events. On Friday, July 3, Cruisin' Grand will celebrate Royce Williams and his Medal of Honor, along with several other military members from different wars. Royce Williams will do a parade lap in a 1948 Lincoln, with Wounded Warriors, Veterans of Foreign Wars and other groups participating.
Nitro Night serves as the traditional season closer, dedicated to vintage race cars. A first responder night in September honors 9/11. The Fourth of July weekend event pays tribute to Escondido's military heritage during the 250th birthday year of the United States.
Family-Friendly Atmosphere
Cruisin' Grand offers activities for visitors of all ages. The event features live music, thousands of people walking the street, and restaurants and shops open late. Family-friendly activities include Hula Hoops, Name That Tune contests, and more.
Car owners compete for awards recognizing selected vehicles. No pre-registration is required for awards, and there are no fees to participate. Restaurants, cafes, pubs, and specialty retail stores remain open during the event for attendees to enjoy.
Community Impact
For the community, the event pays homage to the city's connection to cars and provides activity for downtown businesses. "From a downtown business standpoint, it brings thousands of people downtown," said Carol Rogers, CFO of the Downtown Escondido Business Association. "Cars have been a favorite in Escondido forever...and it's a legacy that families passed down from generation to generation."
Steve Waldron, founder and organizer of Cruisin' Grand, started the event in 2000. "I never thought it would turn into what it has become," Waldron said. The event continues to draw car owners and visitors from throughout the region each week.
